Valparaiso is bohemian in a rough way, great to stroll around Cerro Alegre and concepcion for a couple of days. A constant smell of human urine and dog shit. ( not so bad in the 2 Cerros mentioned but the rest ....;(.....the lower part of the city is an example when a city is left to decay. The city has some lovely spots such as the terrace around Palacio Baburizza. I had dinner in Restorán Capri and Gran Sazón Nazca and the food was great. The major disadvantage are the safety issues. Valparaiso is very hilly and the hotel is on top of one of the many hills which can be challenging, although there is a funicular nearby. Our room was very nice and breakfast was very good. The staff were extremely helpful with advice on where to eat, what to see, booking a transfer to the airport and so on. We were able to check out late as we had a very late flight at no extra cost.
