Baru – great hotels and places to stay

Hotel Las Islas has an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, a garden and private beach area in Baru.

The bungalows on the isla are next to the island with the busiest beach of Colombia. Its a madhouse there with yachts, Jetski s banana boats and loud blasting music from 9AM to 4PM. It is not tranquil and peaceful at all. We were luckily able to change to a bungalow on the mainland. Which was much better. The bungalows are nice, but we don't think the basics are up to standards. The bed is horrible, so is the lighting. And the airco is blasting directly on your bed with no option to alter it. The bathroom is nice. So is the pool and the outside deck. But an extra parasol is missing. There is no shade from 1PM on. On the positive side: the staff is very friendly and helpful. Last but not least the price of the food and beverages are extravagant. Since you have no option of going elsewhere it doesn't feel ok. So def not a good price quality. Note: when driving your own vehicle you're going to experience an unpleasant experience with local people trying to stop you and force you on all sorts of unwanted services about 10KM before the actual village of Baru. Also Baru seems very hostile. So our advice: don't stop!

Hotel Playa Scondida Barú is a rustic-style lodge on Baru Island, 1 hour from Cartagena by motorboat.

I am writing this review from Playa Blanca Baru. One can'' t comprare. In Playa Scondida it was so quiet, so family-like... of course if one likes solitude. The couple who takes care of you- are very nice people, ready to fulfill every wish of yours. All staff were extremely nice and friendly. The place is perfect for 3 days. Thank you for everything.

The Hotel is beautiful and the staff were very friendly. The Menu options were good although if you are staying for longer than 3 days there it might start to get boring.

Tequila SunBeach Baru Eco-Hotel is located on the beachfront in Baru, a few steps from Playa Blanca.

We really loved it here! The room was very nice! The best was Josue, who always looked after us. Even though we didn't speak Spanish, he made such an effort to communicate with us. When we had to leave at 6:00 a.m., he organized everything for us and even made us coffee at 6:00 a.m. and accompanied us back. He was truly great, and he made us feel completely welcome and comfortable!

Beach front location. Just 10 steps to water. La flaca and Gabriel are the best related to take care of you. You can walk and find everything you need (from food, water, drink, etc.) Best spot for relax.....no crowded anytime, very relaxing.

You can’t beat the price & the beach is beautiful.

You can’t beat the price & the beach is beautiful. The people were great & friendly. However I would bring mosquito spray & ear plugs bc if you get the room next to a generator it will drive you crazy. The best room is with the balcony so you could enjoy the sound of the waves & beautiful view, it’s definitely worth the extra money. Food & drinks were good. Take the taxi & boat suggested.

Baru is not a lonely remote place where you will enjoy peace and quiet. Hotels and lodges are literally next to each other. There are many people. When swimming, be careful of boats and jet skis that drive here and there very close to the shore. But the sun and the sea make all that unimportant. There are also various excursion options.

    Wow this location is AMAZING.

Wow this location is AMAZING. Truly it was a private beach all to ourselves… only one other couple there on our first night. The property only has 4 rooms total so you’re never going to have a bunch of people there. The staff were SO accommodating and patient with our lack of ability to speak Spanish. We only speak English, staff only spoke English but they always used translation making it very easy to communicate! I saw other reviews complaining about the food being overpriced and no hot water for the shower which seems silly to me after now experiencing how remote this place is! It was my toddlers first travel experience, and I was SO happy with the comfort Carey House offered. Is it a luxury hotel, no. But does it have everything you need on a remote beach location with PERFECT Carribean swimming and the best staff ever? Yes. We will be coming back!

I love how close the place is to nature, beach is amazing , the rustic cabanas are beautiful .The only thing I didn’t like it were the locals trying to sell their products in a way that can be annoying.

The only way to get from the arrival area to your hotel is to walk along the beach with your luggage or by boat. When the seas are ruff and there are no boats you must carry your luggage through the sand and water. Depending where your hotel is, that could be a mile. There is one tiny bodega on the beach to buy soda and beer and not much else. It’s best for a short stay.

Horrible place, instead of the sea breeze you'll enjoy exhaust from the dozens of motorboats and scooters cruising everywhere without any rules. They make a horrible noise all over the day, combined with loud music from each bar it caused a headache. Food and drinks are extremely expensive, we got poisoned by some food there being sick for 3 days. Trash is everywhere behind the beach line.

This was such a special place to stay. Olga and the staff make you feel so welcome. It’s not trying to be a fancy hotel but it’s is an authentic experience - the food is delicious, gorgeous surroundings and fabulous swimming. The sea water is not blue but it is clean and a pleasant temperature and great for swimming. Olga can also help organise outings to the famous aviary and boat/snorkelling trips

Isla mar is great, the place is quiet and peaceful. It is the Perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff was thoughtful and always attentive to my needs. The beach was private and the hotel is located pretty close to de aviary.

Good place, you have to be prepared for the fact that it is not a 5-star hotel. But you have to talk to people and know what the situation of the place is like, that solves many doubts.
