Leipzig is a beautiful city for a short break. There is very little traffic and everywhere is within walking distance. It has many beautiful cafes to sit and watch the world go by and many museums and other attractions. If you get a chance, I would recommend an audio tour of Leizig under communism. Leipzig is a great cultural centre with many museums and galleries. Shopping is good and there are plenty of excellent coffee shops and eateries. Everyone we met seemed very helpful and friendly. The city centre is very compact and easy to walk around with an excellent tram system for further afield. We enjoyed our time in Leipzig - visiting Marktplatz, for the Christmas market, was fun and we hiked up the tower in the church for a nice view over the city and main square. We really enjoyed the zoo, walking around the city, visiting St. Thomas' church and going to the Kunstkraftwerk for the Dali:Cybernetics show. Leipzig is a wonderful city. So much culture, outstanding museums, beautiful parks, historical monuments, the churches of J.S. Bach and much more - not just JSB but Mendelssohn house, Schumann house. And major scenes for those who like all other forms of music, e.g. the world's biggest Goth gathering at Whitsuntide. Museums! The city museum in the beautiful old town hall in the marketplace, the superb museum of modern German history just across from there, the splendid art gallery, the Grassi Museum for musical instruments, applied arts and anthropology, the amazing Bach archive. Very clean city, not to busy, not much traffic and everything in walking distance. Good shopping centre and also huge centre at/under the station. Connections to Dresden and Berlin are perfect.
