Haapsalu – 156 hotels and places to stay

Located on the Estonian coastal town of Haapsalu and 62 mi from Tallinn, this spa hotel offers different spa treatments.

Location is very nice, right at the waterfront. We had a wonderful view from our superior room and there's the same amazing view from the restaurant and the spa. The spa area is cozy, interesting, enough different saunas and a decent swimming pool, different warm and cold immersing pools etc. but we were there during the week and I can imagine that it can get overcrowded during full house. The staff at the restaurant was extremely friendly. Location is excellent, Haapsalu is small and you get everywhere on foot from this hotel. The only other spa hotel in Haapsalu is Fra Mare and that has a much more tired look and more outside the city centre, I definitely rather recommend this place. But now to the bad things:

Located in the Old Town of Haapsalu on Estonia’s West Coast, Hermannuse Maja is right next to the scenic ruins of Haapsalu Castle. The first-floor balcony overlooks the castle walls.

Affordable, Great location, friendly young staff. On top of a bar and restaurant that stays open until 2am, but isn't loud at all. You can walk out the back door and into the castle. Amazing.

Just a 4-minute walk from Vasikaholmi Beach and 0.8 miles from Haapsalu Town Hall, Villa Marienholm features accommodations in Haapsalu, with a garden.

Nice apartment in a beautiful setting just by the lake, and about 10 minutes walk into town. The grownups loved the well equipped kitchen with an espresso machine and plenty of caspules, the kid loved the swing and slide in the backyeard, and everybody enjoyed having breakfast in the sun on the gazebo.

Best town in Estonia to visit with small kids (and a family dog), many playgrounds, quiet and safe. Must visit different beaches, Ilon's Wonderland, train Peetrike, library, museums and cafes around town.

A charming, historical spa resort much favoured by the late 19th/early 20th Century Russian aristocracy, Haapsalu is faded now but still has an elegant charm. The old railway station (sadly disused since 1995), now a museum, was even specially constructed with an imperial pavilion so that the Tsar and his family could arrive and depart without having to wait with the commoners. The Promenaadi on the seafront is beautiful and the ruined castle in the town centre is well worth visiting. The Wiigi and Kuursaal restaurants are particularly good.

I visit yearly for the brilliant Old Music Festival and rarely other times, so I mainly have experience with Haapsalu in summer - a relevant aspect for a seaside spa town. It is a nice quiet place which at least in the summer has a varied and interesting cultural life amidst equally varied and interesting nature and historical arhictecture. My favourites are the galleries which usually feature themes and artists not seen in the big museums: local 19th c. furniture, fantasy photography, small stage scenery with dolls, all kinds of handicraft, you name it. It pays to look into the city library and cultural centre, the art school (three galleries!), Ilon's Wonderland, city museum in the old town hall... Also, if you take a bit of interest in the local history for context, a walk in the old town and the cemetery becomes quite informative. For drink and food, my personal favs so far are café Küünik and Talumehe kõrts in the old market, the restaurants Meraki and Micio nearby, a small Italian café Trühvlid&Sidrunid on Posti street, and the not too fancy but nicely realiable Mandarin restaurant on Lihula street. Usually, Haapsalu is just walkable but if needed, there's a bit of bus transport and decent taxi service.

Haapsalu is a cute and picturesque small town by the sea with plenty of lovely cafes and cozy restaurants serving delicious meals. There are also several shops for handicrafts and arts. For culture lovers, there’s an old castle with a museum as well as some smaller museums and art galleries/pop-ups.

    Excellent music, world-class sparrows.

Excellent music, world-class sparrows. A lot of tiny art galleries to discover. The unconsciousness of the town lurks in the catacombs beneath the library (feel free to visit, it's impressive). Also, book your tickets for the next year's Old Music Festival. Some of the best Bach et al. you're ever going to hear.

A very cozy appartment in the very heart of Haapsalu. Very clean, comfortable and nice to live in. Also equipped with all the necessary stuff for a multi-day stay. We stayed during the winter, but I imagine it would be lovely in summertime for a holiday getaway. Also, I must add that during our stay it was -20 C in the night (appartment was very warm in spite of this), and our car battery died during the night - the host reacted swiftly and helped us with the car, for which we are very grateful.

I was so sceptic after reading some other Finnish customer review. Lucky us, we didn't cancel our booking. We are a couple who visits dozens of hotels different countries each year. Our standard is on a Scandinavian level and quite high. This hotel meet all the requirements and was superb. The location is perfect and spa area nice and cozy including all you need. Not a huge water world but just a suitable solution in a nice context. Breakfast and interior were as good as they have to be.

It’s a nice and clean apartment with good fittings. The Scandinavia styled place is comfortable. We didn’t like the large blanket for two for that small doublebed and a toaster would be nice. The barking dog from next door was pretty enoying and the stairs are too loud. Haapsalu is surprisingly in some parts ugly, so we wouldn’t recommend the village, but if you have to go there, the apartment is good.

The appartment is spacious and has a beautiful view. It has 2 bedrooms and that’s not so common in Haapsalu. Very near to the beach and everything.
