Incredible host, we came late and hotel was empty but open for us with an instructions. Location was outside but very close to the main historic center. I was sorry to see this one time a great hotel in need of update. Hotel had a better times. Room was nice, clean and functional but needs some updating. Parking was free in front of the hotel.

Very nice apartment in a small village, totally automatique entry. Never saw our host but she was prompt and helpful by messaging. serenaded by bagpipes on the eve of QEII’s death.

we loved it quirkiness, it’s not like staying in a hotel but in an artist’s boudoir. We loved Cecile who came to meet us on her bicycle and took us up to her boudoir and then invited us to have breakfast at her amazing main house in the village with a lovely garden and the most amazing view. Cecile is also a wonderful artist.

Semur en Auxois is a beautiful old French town.
Semur en Auxois is a beautiful old French town.
My wife worked in the Burgundy area many years ago but had never visited Semur until our recent stay. We stayed in the older part of town and had a very relaxing experience.
Ample Restaurants, Bars and Cafe's with friendly staff.
A friend told us we must eat at "La Cuisine de la Fontaignotte" restaurant.
The only reservation we could secure was for lunch 3 days in advance as all dinner reservations were already booked. We took the opportunity for lunch and had one of the most memorable meals I can recall.
It is hard to say the preparation and presentation were superb but in this instance they were. The staff were busy but attentive and our small group of friends had a wonderful experience.
First Class Cuisine.

The town is vey old and the buildings beautiful.
The town is vey old and the buildings beautiful. The setting is extraordinary being on a hill in the loop of the river.
The guide books say visit the church. Not possible for us on a sunday evening. I feel we missed out.
In late march not many restaurants were open but the one we went to was very nice and reasonably priced

Semur-en-Auxois is a gorgeous medieval town, perched high on old (and crumbling) ramparts. The old town has some colombage and other old buildings. The views of the river from the ramparts are fabulous as are the views of the town and bridge from the river below. Getting into and out of the old town can be tricky if you're not familiar with it.

Semur is like a French Hogmead.
Semur is like a French Hogmead. It is really the only way to describe it. The setting in a loop in the river, with battlements, medieval shops and houses, markets and an amazing cathedral feels not of this world. You can wonder around in wonder for hours and would not be surprised to see the occasional wizard. The people are so friendly and thus the town's motto, 'we welcome all strangers' rings very true.

This was our second visit to this hotel and our expectations regarding both the facilities and food were satisfied. Semur en Auxois is a lovely town and the hotel is a short walk from it so has the advantage of the quiet of the countryside as well as access to the town.
Charming, immaculate hotel right in the heart of medieval Samur-en-Auxois. There is a relaxing bar area. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. A good choice at breakfast, and excellent wifi reception. There were plenty of electrical sockets.
The room was very large and comfortable, in a beautiful country house with garden. Breakfast was plentiful. The hotel is a short walk into town. And the pizza restaurant next door is perfect for dinner after a long day sightseeing.
A very cute little hotel, yes rustic and sure the floor boards are old and creaky, but all part of the character and experience. A beautiful little town and friendly townsfolk everywhere.
