Very impressed with the beautiful interior of the hotel. Reception very good and efficient. Room was on the small side but beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Lovely choice at breakfast time and very well presented. Staff were all really nice and friendly.

Highfield features great lake and mountain views and its own private car park. The beautiful rooms have en suite bathrooms and tea/coffee making facilities.

I had a lovely stay at this hotel. The room was clean, cosy and had everything I needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my visit. The location is perfect — close to shops, restaurants and public transport, yet quiet at night. Breakfast was fresh and varied. A pleasant, comfortable hotel with a warm atmosphere. I’d happily stay again.

Ideal for fell walking at all levels.

Ideal for fell walking at all levels. Some great hikes in the area such as Glaramara and Dale Head. Buy the Cicerone guide to find out more. One piece of advice is to do your research thoroughly before setting out. Take a map and compass, or have your route all planned on a GPS app. Some of the paths suddenly fork and if you take the wrong one, you can waste a lot of time and effort getting back on track. They generally don't have helpful fingerposts in the Lake District.

It's the most stunning location, but so hammered by tourists. And, sadly, the river has been controlled and canalised, especially on stretch from Seatoller to Seathwaite. The whole area needs to be declared an SSSi and farmers compensated accordingly. Those woods are just clinging on but are vulnerable to climate change. There's an argument for making it less car friendly, perhaps introduce a toll charge or at least make sure those buses turn up every time (there were none between 12 and 1pm, anywhere in the valley)

The Borrowdale Valley is a beautiful area.I worked there in 1981,1984 & 1985.I don’t know if it was my age then or because I was living there but I did not appreciate just what a fabulous place it was .

One of the most beautiful valleys in Lakeland with walks for all types. Don’t miss Castle Crag a magical baby fell right in the Jaws of Barrowdale, take a circular walk to the village of Watendlath, and enjoy good pubs or tea rooms in Grange, Rosthwaite, Stonethwaite and Seatoller. The newly opened Yew Tree pub in the latter is a welcome stop on the Coast to Coast national trail. Explore Barrowdale, Honister Slate Mine and Buttermere on the local bus rambler. For the more ambitious start your climb up Scafell Pike from Seathwaite

Handy base for Keswick and the North Lakes.

Handy base for Keswick and the North Lakes. Just there for a family meet up but had time to visit Aria Force / Keswick / Ullswater and surrounding areas. Very busy as the lakes always are but didn't detract from the visit. Only a 2 hr drive from home & 20 mins from Penrith junction on the M6 so easy access. Recommended area to visit and if you stay a reasonable time you could cover all of the Lakes & many of the attractions.

Borrowdale is a beautiful valley whichever way you are looking at it and there are numerous paths all around the hills and mountainside to suit everyone. There are some lovely hotels serving food and drink in the valleys which are easy to walk to or a short drive to them.
