It was a good sized apartment for a family of 5 and the host had provided all of the basics and the extras, such as WiFi and Netflix, etc was a great addition. Being paw friendly was a real bonus.

Location good, small walk from train station. Lovely old buildings throughout Bishop Auckland and also local rejuvenation happening.
Quiet area.
Rooms clean, heating thermostat working, turned up when we were in, low when out. Cleaning materials left to use.
A walk into town, but crossed over into main street to look at the shops.
Independent shops and cafes, Moss and Ivy, Marvellous Toys, Auckland Project, The Town Hall, Parkland Hotel Restaurant which was open later for a later birthday meal

Good base, immediately the Auckland Experience in the Town was excellent. We drove up to Beamish which is a wonderful live museum, great day, gives you a perspective of life as a miner from the 1800's onwards. Finally for a 2 night break, we visited Raby Castle on the way home, and the gardens and castle were wonderful. Will definitely come back the area again.

Auckland Project amazing, annual ticket includes access to the Palace, Faith Museum, Spanish Gallery (only one outside of London, based on Bishop Trevor's humanitarian support for Jewish families and paintings of Jacob's father and brothers.) My dull description doesn't do it justice..
Ticket also covers the powerful and emotional paintings in the Mining Art Museum, mostly local men portraying working in the towns and villages on in the mines on the North Eastern Coal Seam.
You can go back and see bits you have missed or new exhibitions throughout the year. Supported by a dedicated and informative staff team who feel passionate about Bishop Auckland and the Project.
Spanish Tapas restaurant-delicious food! Moss and Ivy-cute gifts and good food. Other cafes dotted about, didn't have time to try out McIntyre's, which looked charming.
Visited Boyes haberdashery, Marvellous Toys is a must. The Town hall has a gallery, nice café, helpful Library, also theatre/film. Michelangelo is on 20th May!
Rejuvenation of Bishop Auckland appears to be helped by Durham County Council and their own great spirit. The town suffered during Covid lock down, most of the specialist shops closed in Bondgate and could see there was a marked vandalism of old properties on the high street. I hope to see a continual recovery for their future. The people living there were kind, helpful and friendly, determined and tolerant, patient of our queries. I hope the younger generation are supported more, they seemed to be at a bit of a loose end, but it was Easter.

The Bishops Palace, the Spanish Gallery and the Miners Art...
The Bishops Palace, the Spanish Gallery and the Miners Art Gallery are wonderful - visiting highly recommended for any art lover. A visit to Raby Castle perfectly completed our two day stay. Bishop Auckland is a sadly run down town but the Auckland Project, thanks to some exceptional philanthropy is a regeneration project that deserves and amply repays support.

Bishop Auckland is up and coming, very sad to see so many empty shops and building but council encouraging more businesses to open. The Stack being built, more work being done to save old buildings; heart warming.
People I met were lovely, interested and helpful.
Kynren run by over 1000 volunteers, marvellous.
EL Castillo for our anniversary meal-delicious!
Spanish Gallery-not enough time to get around, big thanks to helpful and informative staff.
The Vines for lunch, enjoyable food, owner running up and down stairs, lovely little shop on the ground floor.
The Bishops Palace: beautiful architecture and gardens, staff helpful, knowledgeable and passionate about topics. Thankyou D.
The Auckland Project; much praise for a community working together. The staff at the Tower were lovely, Thankyou M!
Marvellous Toys, Newgate-definitely worth a visit, Venom gets snapped up straight away! Bought a Stormtrooper helmet!
Pools Surplus Stores, Newgate (next door to above) yummy sweet treats (Kendal Mint Cake, Treacle Toffee, Butter Tablet) for your friends (or for you!)
Excellent Boyes-check out the habadashery.
Stan Laurel lived here with his family, started his profession at the Eden Theatre, lived at Princes Street, his memory celebrated at Stanley Jefferson (his true name), Wetherspoon pub in the Market Place.
A big thank you to the hosts of The Nook, without them our enjoyable time would not have happened the way it did. I hope resident teddy enjoyed us taking him out!

We visited the museums and galleries which make up the Auckland Project, they were all excellent. The local people were friendly and made us feel very welcome. We had a delicious lunch in the Fifteas Vintage Tearoom. We'd recommend Bishop Auckland for a different and very interesting day out.

Hosts were very polite and professional able to accommodate our request to anticipate the check-in of about 2 Hr. The flat is right in the centre of the city very convenient to the train station and major attractions. Flat was found clean and well organised with all you need for a short stay. I would strongly recommend. I'll be using it again 100% for my next stays at bishop auckland.
