Location, friendliness of staff and very good breakfast
Set in a traditional house dating from 1900, The Gannet Inn is located in Carbis Bay, just an 8-minute walk from a sandy beach. It features a bar with a games room and Sky Sports channels.

The room was spacious and very clean, with a surprisingly large bathroom. It was also a nice touch that they offer a complimentary continental breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful, which I really appreciated. The hotel also has its own large car park, which is a big plus in this area, and the price was very reasonable for the location.
However, I found it unacceptable that loud music from the bar continued until midnight. It completely contradicts the idea of a good night's rest for hotel guests. When the music plays, the entire room literally shakes from the noise. According to the menu in the room, the bar is supposed to close at 22:00 — this was clearly not the case during our stay.
I believe it is only fair that the presence of a bar with loud music playing until 00:00 is clearly stated in the room and hotel description on Booking.com, so that potential guests can make an informed choice.
I was travelling with a small child, and after a 7-hour drive the noise made it impossible for us to relax properly. If I had been travelling just with my wife, I would probably have enjoyed spending the evening in the bar — and in that case I wouldn’t have minded the location above it. But for families with children or those looking for a quiet rest, this is something that needs to be communicated in advance.

Host St Ives was the ideal base for exploring this stunning part of Cornwall. Rassie is an exceptional host—helpful, genuinely friendly, and full of great local tips. His warm South African accent alone could brighten your day, and honestly, I’d happily grab a pint with him anytime. He even inspired us to go for a sunrise swim in the sea—an unforgettable experience!
The accommodation itself is beautifully designed, with thoughtful details in every corner. The interior is stylish, the lighting can be adjusted with different ambient scenes, and even the shower gel smells like gorse—the iconic yellow flowers you see everywhere around here.
As tempting as it is to just relax in the room, be sure to get out and explore. There’s so much to do in and around St Ives: hike to Zennor or even Gurnard’s Head, take a boat trip, visit beaches, explore the chapel, discover great restaurants, check out 3 Mile Beach, or catch a film in the small cinema just around the corner.
Highly recommended—we’ll be back!

We liked the country cottage , it was pretty and very comfortable. The beds were warm and cosy and had electric blankets . The cottage kitchen was well equipped and had a lovely range gas cooker.
The fuel burning stove was a nice feature but we didn’t need it on as it was warm enough in the cottage .
Our dog liked the garden which had a nice seating area which would be lovely to use in the summer evenings .
We visited Hayle beach which is beautiful , has a wide sandy beach and very clean . On our visit to Hayle we found a bistro called Birdies Bistro by the estuary . Lovely food , yummy milkshakes and very popular !
Gwinear is very well situated to be able to visit the beaches of Hayle, Carbis Bay and St Ives . There are lots of lovely farm shops close by too.
