We ate mostly at the Traquair Arms Hotel for bar food. Range of food on offer was good with additional daily courses given on the chalk board. Loved the desserts! The coffee shop at Findra on the High Street was had a relaxed and very friendly feel, with good coffee and scones. Recommend Caddon View Guest House. Innerleithen would be a lovely holiday destination - an interesting small town with lots of shops and gift shops to explore, local country walks, cycle hire, lovely restaurant at the Traquair Arms. A highlight for me was a visit to Kailzie Gardens just a 10 minute drive. This has an amazing walled garden (17ft high walls) with herbaceous borders, glasshouses, a flower cutting garden, veggie garden and wonderful arboretum for walks and picnics. Also a courtyard garden, putting green, trout fishing and a fishing pond for children. Visit for a day or afternoon for walks and lunch. Good location with regular bus services.
Good location with regular bus services. Good location to travel to and from by car. Not alot of places to choose from to dine in and the one pub offering food can be abit pricey but they've a captive audience. Plenty of takeaways if that's your thing. Also a supermarket to buy daily supplies. Leave your car and use the regular bus service to other local places. Traquair House is a must place to see and they do excellent lunches. Most charming small town I have visited in Scotland. Everything is very intimate in a sense that you have exactly what you need - couple of restaurants, a few shops and lovely people. The property is very clean and well equipped, just big enough for 2 people, 3 would be quite tight. Bed comfortable. Underfloor heating in bathroom, nice! Good shower. There are walks within the grounds that are just beautiful. The majestic fir trees around the grounds make it quite magical. Host were helpful throughout the stay and little touches in the property made it special. We stayed in the "small double room" - the room was a lot bigger than I expected and far from small, the bathroom was very clean and modern with a good, powerful shower.
