The Retreat is small but perfectly laid out and had everything we needed for our two night stay. The bed is comfy, the shower is good and the location is peaceful. Claire is very friendly and the perfect host. Loved the extra touches, like fresh milk in the fridge and tea, coffee, cereals and biscuits provided. Also liked that there was parking available on the driveway. We arrived on a cold day and loved that the room was warm from the underfloor heating on arrival.

Very friendly and helpful staff.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Very convenient location, as I stay here when I go to gigs in The Patriot rock bar. Also, the train station is literally just 5 minutes down the road. There is a lovely beer garden, but I didn't use it on this occasion as it had been raining. But it's great when it's a sunny day 😎🍺🌞

Newbridge was a little shabby , two betting shops in the centre sets the tone.
2 for 1 pub the Otter for meals but not good for single travellers.
Good chip shop where they cooked fish fresh - great haddock.
Good road and train links.
Stayed in the Newbridge pub with rooms cheap and cheerful.

Very basic.
Very basic. If you just need somewhere to get your head down or the night its worthwhile. The mattress was awful and could feel every spring. The walls were paper thin and could here people all night, so not much sleep was had. The cleanliness of the room and bathroom was a bit grim, can tell there hasn't been any care or attention to the rooms or the pub in general for years. The staff weren't very engaging, clearly the hotel part of the pub isn't a priority and we were just handed a key and left to our own devices. Only positive was the room was massive and the place is dog friendly which is great. Parking is available but not immediately clear when booking, there is a free park park around the corner and lots of stress parking too but no dedicated parking for the pub/hotel.

A small town on the outskirts of Newport & Blackwood area ideal for those who like walking around the area. The town has an excellent hall called the Muni which has been recently refurbished during the pandemic also has seating upstairs for people to enjoy and band or any stage production.
