Self contained, quiet, central location the hosts were very thoughtful and left a tray of goodies for us including home made scones
Beautiful, quiet beaches (it was April!) Each beach has something for all ages e.g. Coney Beach to the South East has it's amusement park and donkey rides, Rest Bay Beach to the North West has amazing long walks and is good for the surfers. It is backed by a golf course for the golfers! There is a nature reserve further along the coast.
The town is a little tired but, there is evidence of works and updating taking place. There is a danger the attractions could be lost to new holiday letting apartments though speaking to the locals!
Some interesting little shops and charity shops together with a greengrocers and bakers make shopping more intimate and friendly than the large supermarkets but, there is an Aldi on the edge of town for stocking up if self catering (I didn't visit).
We spent a few hours in the very interesting little museum with exhibits that covered the history of Porthcawl and its community.
Plenty of eateries and coffee shops. A lovely time spent in the coffee shop right on the esplanade and the two storey coffee shop at Rest Bay...recommended to us and a joy to while a way an hour watching the surfers over a good latte!
I definitely plan to return as easy access from the motorway from Bristol and less busy or commercialised than Devon or Cornwall.

Very handy for the motorway with some excellent walks which are devoid of hills , so accessible for the elderly. The town has all the shops you would need for a holiday stay and several eateries catering for every taste. Children will love the rock pools when the tide is out and fishing takes place at various locations . All in all a reasonably priced holiday can be had by all.

Lovely Welsh holiday resort with large clean beaches...
Lovely Welsh holiday resort with large clean beaches comprising of golden sand for as far as the eye can see. Has a funfair and all the other attractions that one expects in a UK holiday resort. They are currently renovating an Art Deco pavillion which should be well worth a visit when it reopens. There are lots of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Although many of the beach attractions are seasonal Porthcawl is not just a tourist town. People live there, it has a busy town centre and unlike many other UK coastal towns appears thriving and prosperous.

Amazing stay at this apartment in porthcawl, location and apartment were excellent!
Hosts were extremely helpful and friendly! They go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay!
Myself and my family had the perfect weekend here for my birthday, the host even upgraded us as the larger apartment was available this was a lovely gesture.
Overall just an excellent weekend in a lovely looked after modern apartment right in the town and super close to the beach!
Quiet location yet just a few minutes' walk from beach, funfair, museum and lovely shops. So handy for takeaways. Porthcawl is a friendly little seaside town and only a 10 minute drive to nature reserves, woodland walks and castles. Kitchen well equipped for self catering. Comfy beds.
Superb Hosts, Arrived and felt welcomed and offers a complimentary drink and Welsh cake, then shown to my beautiful room with a stunning bathroom. First visit to this small but wonderful hotel, see you on my next visit to Wales.
Staff very helpful and friendly.
Lovely community feel which was also extended to visitors.
Room clean and comfortable. Great location to walk down into Porthcawl without being in the middle of town. Food was very good
