The location was great with access to the Cumbrian fells quite literally out the back. Our room was a very good size with a huge double bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom had both a bath and seperate shower with good water pressure. A good choice of breakfasts and the evening meals were all reasonably priced. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Ideal location for the Coast to Coast walk too.

Although on the A6, Shap is now relatively quiet due to the M6 by-passing it. This means it has more a country village feel about it and if the weather is good, sitting outside one of the local pubs sipping a pint is very pleasurable. With such glorious countryside on either side and plenty of footpaths to follow, spending a few days here should be on anyone's to-do list.

Lovely views squirrels in the woods nice place to relax and staff were so friendly and made you feel relaxed. Shap is a small village so nothing of interest but at the weekends you can see the steam train going through. Easy access to the motorway and Penrith and the lakes.

This is a great place for solo travellers as well as families. Scenery around the hotel is stunning. If you're a photographer and love wildlife - perfect place to stay as only a few minutes walk before you're in a red squirrel conservation area.

Stayed here on a stop over heading North with our dog. Evening meal was delicious. Our room was in the Bath House which was perfect for dogs (little porch to sleep in if you don't want them in the bedroom). Right next to a lovely brook and a woodland walk.

We loved our time at the hotel. It is lovely staying somewhere with a great sense of the past. Our room was clean and comfortable, breakfast and dinner were great, and the staff were very helpful at the beginning, during and end of our stay. The hotel was ideally situated for a stopover on our way home from touring Scotland, with the added bonus of being able to see the beautiful red squirrels!
Great place, geared up for those walking the coast to coast, so highly recommended if you are doing this. Easy check in, nice owner and decent room and facilities. Fish and Chip shop in Shap has eat in restaurant, great place to go to eat and then local pub for couple of pints.
Beautiful cottage, very comfortable bed and great value for money. Loved the fact that they are dog friendly and that our furry family members were able to come with us! Shap Abbey is very close by and worth having a walk around if you want to take your dogs for a walk nearby.
Nice cottage in lovely location peaceful and quiet and handy for local walks in the peak district good location to be near local hotel which has good range of beers and nice food
Nice authentic British pub in Shap. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and had a great stay!
Rooms were nice and cosy. Breakfast was good!
It was excellent value for price!
