This unique residence is a modern reworking of the Great Western Hotel, built in 1844 and reputed to be the oldest surviving railway hotel in the world.

Enjoyed our stay at Malmaison. We chose this hotel due to its proximity to the train station (we had lots of luggage) and the mostly positive reviews. The staff was very kind and accommodating during our stay. We had a club room which was large with a comfortable bed and nice furnishings.

Within Forbury Gardens, this luxury 5-star hotel offers a fine dining restaurant and a cocktail bar. Reading Rail Station is a 5-minute walk away.

Great hotel, highly recommended. Entrance needs a ramp for luggage and probably more lights on the hotel itself as you can see much of it at night. There is only one elevator which has two doors. One for the guests to the rooms and the other to the kitchen and service areas. Always smells like food. Suggest to add a refresher to kill the food smell.

Key arrangements were very poor.... parking very poor with key not working on anti Park bar. Alos wanted more money 20 pounds per child surcharge. Plus 100pounds deposit. Which I didn't pay. These were not mentioned when booking.

Very run down, unclean streets, overflowing bins on pavements with unbelievable stench, excrement over walkways and rats running freely in the streets and alleyways. The area seems totally neglected. This is not a tourist area or indeed a recommended area to stay. Parking requires permits for both AM & PM stays.
