Glenan Lodge is a charming and lovely old home, nestled in the trees, where you can explore the local highlands. It's right next to the Tomatin distillery and there are fields of sheep just outside the door. I loved the peaceful location and the warm and helpful staff! My room was clean and safe, and I would gladly stay here again.

Property was warm and inviting, cosy, en suite bathroom quite large. Breakfasts were tasty, and the best part was the hostess, Rachael. She was very welcoming, and humored us - she let us pet one of her and James’s baby lambs. Also very knowledgeable and helpful about local activities and itinerary planning.
Perfectly located for hill walking, climbing, fishing, the Malt Whiskey Trail, golf and all winter sports, this independently-owned hotel is found in the heart of Aviemore, in the Cairngorms.
With fantastic views of Rothiemurchus Forest and the Cairngorm Mountains, the High Range Lodge Hotel offers spacious rooms with original artwork by local artists.

The stay at Smithton Hotel was truly exceptional. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, creating a comforting, home-like atmosphere from the moment of arrival. Every interaction — whether at the front desk, during breakfast, or in passing, was marked by genuine friendliness and thoughtful care.
What stood out most was the team’s hospitality and attention to detail. They went above and beyond to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay, even offering helpful tips for getting around Inverness and discovering local sights. Their recommendations led to some lovely off-the-beaten-path experiences that made the trip even more memorable.
The room itself was clean, cozy, and well-equipped perfect for a restful night. The peaceful location of the hotel also added to the overall comfort, offering a quiet retreat while still being conveniently close to the city center.
All in all, a wonderful experience that far exceeded expectations, a place that truly feels like a home away from home.

It was nice that most activities were free. My child loved what was offerred. We ate at two of your restaurants, Aspire and Giovani's. Both were very good and appropriately priced for what we got. It is dissapointing that the highland fish bar did not have a gluten free option.

Plenty of room for two of us. Tea and coffee facilities plus everything you need in the kitchen. Shops very local. Great value for money. Clear instructions sent and left, although didn't meet any staff in person. Parking available. Free WiFi.

Motivated by internet we chose Tomaten distillery for our own impression and to try their products. On the way to Tomaten we also checked out a number of other destilleries and therefore were able to have our own comparison done.
The consequence was: Tomatein was not really worth the visit. Guest area was neither cosy or offered an area where you could stay and try. Much better experience (and Whiskies) including free trial of ALL bottles can be found for example in Glenlivet on the way...

Made most welcome, home from home.
Made most welcome, home from home. Staff, service excellent, made to feel like part of the family. Lovely relaxed and friendly, good care and attention. Nicely secluded with major facilities a short drive away. Never used by us as they provided everything we required.

It's was an ideal location only 25mins drive to Inverness and Aviemore. The studio was amazing spotless and beautiful deco etc. Maureen was so nice to us and very helpful would definitely recommend this to anyone. Tomatin is a very peaceful place and lovely scenery, also it is dog friendly.
The room was comfortable and clean, with a decent sized bathroom. The bar was great bonus, Whisky from the distillery next door and excellent scottish cider. We could also get evening dinner, at the hotel, without having to travel into Inverness. Great hostess
The location was great with lovely walks nearby and Tomatin Distillery next door, but this was an overnight stop on our way to Isle of Lewis. I even saw my first grouse.
