Birr is a lovely town - we visited family and friends and spent some time exploring the town. We visited Birr Castle and gardens, which are spectacular. We were however disappointed that we could not visit the castle itself as it is a private residence. We visited the castle grounds which were excellent and much better than we expected. Town centre has everything and reasonable cafes. Lots of pubs but then it was Ireland! Birr is a beautiful town. It's steeped in history. The period houses all around are stunning. Castle tour is highly recommended. Lot's to see and do there. Nolan's pub was very welcoming and a great pint to be had. Kelly's bar is great for food and old fashioned Irish atmosphere and pint of Guinness.Guest review byCarolIreland
