We had a great experience at the Lyrath. The room was very spacious and had a luxurious feel. The food in the Grill and Bar was excellent, with a wide variety on the menu and delicious cocktails. Breakfast was also very good. We used both the gym and pool, which were well-equipped and thoughtfully laid out. The dressing rooms felt five star.
We also visited the thermal spa - the infinity pool was the standout feature and i think it would be especially impressive in the evening or during snowy weather.

Location was excellent and the bar/restaurant handy within the hotel. The room assigned to us, was good enough view looking at Left Bank opposite us. Plenty of places to get coffee, walkabout, Kilkenny Castle on sight. Great original features (contemporary en suite). We listened to live music 2 nights in a row in the bar area which was a nice way to end the evenings. Shower was excellent and the bed was comfy. Everything was great, but attention to the requirements in the room was a bit of let down (see below). Staff were great and did go out of their way to help us with requests. Note though, wife would stay here again despite the lack of xyz.

Spirited Kilkenny was Ireland’s capital in the Middle Ages and although many monuments remain from back then, it’s now best known for the 'craic'. Kilkenny cream ale flows in pubs forming part of its legendary nightlife and tours of Smithwick’s showcase Ireland’s oldest operating brewery, on grounds containing the St Francis Abbey ruins.
Kilkenny has the most medieval churches in Ireland. Dating to the 13th-century are the Black Abbey and St Canice’s Cathedral, next to the Round Tower - the only remains of a 9th-century monastery founded by the saint.
Medieval streets, inns and wall remnants still stand, but the most impressive attraction is Kilkenny Castle, in large gardens by the River Nore. The 3-turreted fortress was a former home of the once powerful Butler family.
The Parade leads from here past high street shops to The Tholsel – the porticoed town hall. The Elizabethan merchants’ residence Rothe House is in a similar style. Wandering the colourful streets you can’t fail to notice buildings named after cats, a reference to the residents’ dogged determination. Local hurling team The Cats play at Nowlan Park, and the city hosts the annual Cat Laughs comedy festival, amongst others.
Booking.com’s Kilkenny accommodation includes hotels with spas and pools, and city centre guest houses near the train station.
For us one day was enough to see what we wanted. We visited the castle, took the road train which was great and had a nice dinner at Langton’s where we stayed the night. There were several restaurants I could still have tried, and if you had other things you wanted to see in the area, it could be a good base.

Great place to visit.
Great place to visit. I loved the compact size of the city and was able to see everything I wanted to see without getting exhausted. Kilkenny is full of historical buildings and streets, most of which are easily accessible. People are friendly and helpful and the cafes, pubs and shops are a pleasure to go in to.

A fabulous historic city to visit, with so much to see.
A fabulous historic city to visit, with so much to see. However, rather disappointing was the entry cost to all of the historic buildings. I was travelling with a group from America, we would have called to all the historic buildings for a tour, but the cost mounts very fast. We would have been happy to pay more and get access to a number of the historic buildings/ museums, but paying from 9.50- 12 euro for 6 people for each of the tours was exorbitant, the net effect was that we stopped going in and looked from the outside. Definitely needs to be considered.

this is a great city to visit.
this is a great city to visit. We thought 2 days would be enough but 3 would have been perfect! In the summer we heard it is like a party atmosphere with street musicians and festivals, but we had fun in the winter because nothing was crowded. Walking tour at the Medieval Mile museum is first rate and probably overlooked by many tourists. The OPW guide at Kilkenny castle was wonderful too. Remember to walk the grounds of the castle

The location is excellent as is not 500 meters far from city centre and most important attractions in Kilkenny as Kilkenny Castle, Medieval Museum, Pubs and Restaurants. Additional, The Owner Angela is the best and lovely to cross some tales with her, she is a truly writer with amazing histories to tell, you can get her books in the hotel and she lovely can sign it for you. She told us that her first book "not forgotten" could be transferred to a movie. Good luck Angela!
It’s the Dower House for Kilkenny Castle. It’s now a comfortable, design-literate boutique hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was top quality, the garden outside is just beautiful. Central location in Ireland’s coolest city.
Huge comfortable bed. Excellent shower and toiletries..
Great location 2min from city centre and FREE PARKING behind the hotel which was so convenient.
