Overall a pleasant stay with friendly staff and housekeeping. We did have to mail a book and were told we would receive a confirmation the following day. We did not receive it and when we asked the day we were leaving we were told it will certainly arrive. (I don’t think it had been sent yet, but we were not told that). The confirmation was less that the postal service would get the item there but to inform the recipient of the information and in case any issues arose. We were then told we would receive confirmation as soon as they had it but never received it. Ultimately the item did arrive but an example of over promising and under delivering.
Also pricing for tea is strange as it is served as a pot but when ordered for two the price is doubled and you are provided with two cups and the same amount/pot of tea. Would suggest revision of pricing to be by the cup or by the pot. More confusing than anything.

Interesting city but a culture shock for western tourists.
Interesting city but a culture shock for western tourists. I don't think it would be easy to travel as a single woman or even a couple of girls together. I went to visit friends so was shown around. Streets are super crowded and traffic is at a standstill most of the time, What we saw was interesting but its not really a city set up for tourists

It's a weird city that represents India very well.
It's a weird city that represents India very well. You have some beautiful monuments and palaces with well kept gardens but only have to walk one street over to see how people in the city actually live while the rich build their palaces.
Everyone I talked to was very friendly. I didnt feel unsafe walking through those streets for the most part. Especially in the new town. The area around the Indian museum felt more "sketchy" to me.
Don't drive here, take an Uber, close your eyes and pray. They're fairly safe drivers but it's pure chaos. Also no seatbelts in the backseats. They remove those for some reason. Maybe bring earplugs too, they don't use blinkers, they honk here. In the new town it's better but not by much.

During winter, Kolkata is a nice place to visit.
During winter, Kolkata is a nice place to visit. Spending afternoon seating in the 'Maidan', having street food looking Ganga at Princep Ghat, Having adda (gossip) with old friends at Coffee House, roaming around Kolkata is simply fantastic (no other word can perhaps express it). Visiting Jorasanko Thakur bari and other heritage building enriches your bhalo laga (I could not find any good English word to replace it). It was my boy hood city; it is a joyful city.

1.I am unaware of any active promotion of Kolkata tourism.
1.I am unaware of any active promotion of Kolkata tourism. 2. Whenever I enquired about a tour, the reply from anyone was "which all places you want to see ?" (I am unaware of any such places/my choices. I wished if there were 'Kolkata Darshan Tour', with an English speaking guide).3. Now, after a few days' stay in Kolkata, I think this is what a new tourist should see. (A drive through busy streets of Kolkata, a ride on the legendary tram, another ride in Kolkata Metro, also short rides in the Yellow Ambassador Taxi, 4-some autorickshaw ride, also in the electric autorickshaw, visit to old & new markets, visit a new mall, then the important places- Kalighat Temple, Victoria Memorial, St.Paul's Cathedral, Birla Planetarium, James Princep Monument, the ghats, may be a boat ride in Hooghly river, ride through Howrah Bridge, see Howrah Railway station, back through the 'second bridge', the Indian Museum, Birla Mandir, show the Writer's Building and such other historical landmarks, Eden Gardens etc, Mother Teresa's House, Biswa Bangla Gate...are what comes to my mind now. Also there may be memorials for our historical heroes - Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Sathyajit Rai, Mrinal Sen and others in Indian cinema...
Someone knowledgeable can design such tours..

Kolkata has a unique flavor that can only be felt with a heart that has a passion for a mixture of cultures, arts, colonial architectures, history and food. Just take a walk on the streets of this City of Joy - it is all there for you. Every yard has something to offer. A city one would feel with all five senses!
I been to this city so many times and still find her attractive, inviting. Do not mind visiting again and again with a reason or without.

The rooms are beautiful, and they give vibes of history of Kolkata. I really love the architecture of the hotel. The pictures and paints in the bar amazing. So much history, Paintings and pictures of the foundation of the hotel and freedom fighters. The food is amazing especially the Thai restaurant in the hotel. It seems it is rated best in India or something for Thai food. It certainly lived to the mark. The poolside is amazing as well and you tell them to arrange dinner for you near the pool side as well.
Perfect place for a nice and comfy stay! located at 5th floor so it’s very quiet, soundproof walls, all essentials provided, tasty breakfast (2 options to chose from), dinner available if needed. In the surrounding area you will find a lot of shops, bars, restaurants etc. Walking distance to Park street or Victoria monument. Friendly and helpful staff! First hotel in India that I could really relax! Highly recommended!
Really nice hotel if you plan to visit Kolkata, the photos don't pay justice to the rooms, it's cozy, comfortable and it's one of the only hotel i've done in India with enough airflow in the bathroom! The breakfast was very good and plentiful!
The staff at this hotel were unbelievable. They are so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Hospitality in India is just on a higher level. They do it best!!
