We had a wonderful stay at Flower Hill Cottage. The room exceeded our expectations, with a super comfortable bed, a fantastic bathroom featuring a double shower and rainwater head, and excellent water pressure. There were even many options for lighting the room from led strips, spotlights and lamps. There was plenty of storage for clothes and toiletries, and we enjoyed a beautiful view of the beach from our balcony, though the heat kept us from spending too much time out there. The air conditioning was much appreciated. Our host, Abhilash, ensured we had a hearty breakfast and everything we needed. The staff on the grounds were also very friendly and accomodating. The newly renovated cottage is located a little further from the shops and restaurants, making it wonderfully quiet, yet a short 10-minute walk along the coastline takes you to many cafes, restaurants, and gift shops. We had a great stay and wished we could have stayed longer—next time! :)

What an amazing place, tucked away in the heart of Varkala. Our host Osuklama was a dream to be around and his staff were lovely. It was about a 5/10 min walk into town and the beach. Very clean rooms and good showers with hot water! If you’re looking for a super comfortable and affordable stay, this is your place!

The beach was awesome, the water temperature and calmness of the sea making it perfect for swimming. Varkala itself had plenty of options for eating at any budget level and the people were friendly, helpful and generally very honest in their dealings with tourists. The temple was especially interesting for us and was mostly open to non-hindus to walk around its grounds.

Large beach with fabulous turquoise sea and big waves with some sun beds down one end if wanted . Lovely views and sunsets. Busy lively area ( we were there just after Xmas/ new year ) with many restaurants and shops along the cliff side. No beach hawkers on beach which made a change . Not really suitable for young children or people with mobility issues as big waves and steep steps to beach . We ate at costa del mer which had good European food if you feel like a change from the standard Indian food and was really excellent for breakfast as well as other meals . There are also cheaper good more traditional Indian restaurants just off the main drag . Roof top sky bar great for sundowners overlooking beach .

I cannot recommend Varkala as a city to visit due to aggressive and high-speed driving of locals on tiny roads. I felt myself unsafe to walk there. Walking to the beach was a challenge and stressful due to drivers and broken and hanging electric cables along the road. Some of the cables were connected to the electric column and other end was laying down on the road. I was worried of being electrocuted during the rain.

A good break.
We went there off-season.
A good break.
We went there off-season. So, a lot of shops were shut. We stayed away from the central cliff area but within walking/cabbing distance.
Not much crowd, the weather was good. The cliff-beach walk was a good different experience.
In the evening, the cliff side restaurants have a Goa-feel. Lots of small hidden cafes and eateries. We picked a hotel (B'Canti) with a swimming pool, so got the water fix. The sea was quite rough this season (July).
Don't miss the Kaapil beach where the river/stream meets the sea. We spent quite some time there, thanks to a tip from a waiter (Darjeeling cafe - also good for lunch, and ice cream).
A visit to the Mangroves is a must-do. You can either kayak or go on a boat.

I stayed in Varkala for 3 nights.
I stayed in Varkala for 3 nights. This was mainly due to train timings. 2 nights would’ve been enough. I did a yoga class and auryvedic massage on the last day this would have been better in the second day.
What I did find slightly confusing was the references to North & South Cliff whereas I think South Cliff was an extension of the cliff walk - starting with North cliff.
Plenty of choice for food although a particular favourite was Sun Francisco - the Veg Tali was delicious and good value for money.

The hospitality at this homestay was incredible. One of the owners, who lives in the homestay, made my stay a breeze. More than happy to organize transportation to and from, how to get around the city, anything i needed anything during the stay.
Location is about a 10 minute walk to the beach, and there's some lovely cafes around the cliff face within 5-10 minute walk.
Rooms were tidy, clean, and quiet during the evenings.
If I was to ever return to Varkala, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again
I stopped by the hostel before checking-in.
The place looked amazing. A great location at the edge of North cliff.
Amazing patio with seating, helpful staff. I was looking forward to stay but unfortunately I had an injury and had to go to a hospital instead. The injury required stitches and it took over a month to heal.
The staff and the manager helped me to cancel my booking and get my money back.
If I ever return to Varkala, I hope to stay with them!
What a wonderful and special place to stay in Varkala. Superbly located on south cliff, Villa Jacaranda is an oasis of serenity and style with every design detail thoughtfully curated. The room, the terrace and the garden are beautiful. Breakfast served on our private terrace was healthy and delicious. You must have dinner whilst here - the vegetarian banquet is a feast of many dishes, at the standard of a tasting menu at the best restaurant! What a treat.
The hotel is situated very near the North Cliff, the room was very big with 2 balconies,it was very clean. The breakfast menu was limited but I think it was because there were not many guests the same applied for dinner as we had booked for half board. The swimming pool was clean and well kept with sunbeds. The hotel has a gym and a Spa where you can book a ayurvedic massage. A beautiful hotel in kerala style.
Lovely place to stay when in Varkala.Close to cliff and all of the shops and restaurants, and of course the beach. The staff is really kind and helpful.Free wifi..Value for money.
