We had an amazing stay at Albergo del Lago! Super friendly personnel, clean room, exceptional breakfast at the rooftop terrace... We were even provided with aperitivo and wine in the evening. We barely give out perfect reviews, but this one is absolutely deserved - best value for money in our two week tour through Tuscany. We will definitely come back!
Located near the medieval center of Capalbio, Valle Del Buttero offers an outdoor pool. All rooms and apartments have free WiFi and a TV with satellite channels.

Most of all - the staff. Kattia, Roberta, Julia, Benedetta and Daniel (my apologies to anyone that I have forgotten their names) were ALL so very kind, friendly and helpful to us from the moment of arrival to the time of departure. Caffè, cappuccinos and wine on request from the bar area in the reception area, brought to us with a smile. We stayed three nights. The room/suite was most comfortable with a beautiful view down the valley. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom facilities excellent with a wonderful shower. Elevator to the second floor most helpful. Breakfasts in the morning with abundant choices laid out in an airy sitting area adjacent to the reception desk. That same area served as a pleasant place duty the day and evening to sit and relax, surrounded by artwork and reading materials. The staff only a voice distance away for any needs of refreshments or wine. Simply a wonderful setup.
Capalbio itself is a nice village in its own right, with enough services that allow for remaining in place if one so desires. The historic center a walkable distance from the hotel, with additional restaurants and services even closer, outside of the historic center. However, other places of interest in the Maremma are only short and easy drives away. Beautiful territory and not crowded when we visited.
Definitely we recommend Hotel Valle del Buttero to those choosing to stay in the area.

The hotel overlooks a spectacular valley yet is right in the town. You can walk to any of the restaurants and even the hilltop tower within minutes. If you are exploring the lower Tuscany region (Tarot Garden, Saturnia, etc) this IS your base. Incredible breakfast, very comfortable beds, great staff. When travelling we usually like to try new places, but when we return to Capalbio we will also return to Valle Del Buttero. It is that good.
The closest restaurant is a 2 minute walk. L'angolo Di Capalbia was great - obviously a local favorite, and we were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the cuisine at very reasonable cost.

Charming hilltop ancient village with delightful winding passages, a castle, ramparts, spectacular views and very good restaurants. The residents are very friendly. Capalbio is close to the Jardin des Tarots de Niki de Saint Phalle which is why we picked this village. It is also not far from the sea. You need strong legs for this village but take it slow and many delightful secrets are revealed. I intend to return soon.

Best wine and food in Italy.
Best wine and food in Italy. Fantastic salumi from Marcelleria norcineria La Ciccia del Brigante, all made by the same man who also serves in the shop in Piazza Silone Ignazio. La Porte and Trattoria Toscana restaurants both great
Low light pollution at night, the Milky Way visible in many places there.
Accommodation expensive.

Capalbio is worth visiting.
Capalbio is worth visiting. The views are beautiful and the architecture is charming. There are a few restaurants that are worth checking out. Is is worth visiting the Tarot Gardens if you can. If you don't have a car you will need to take a cab to from the train station. Worth it!

A lovely hotel near the train station. The staff are incredibly helpful, accommodating and full of useful information about the area. I loved the delicious apertivo and breakfast on the upper terrace. I'd like to return and go to the Capalbio Beach next time.
We had a nice apartment with a view over the hills. The hotel has a perfect location, walking distance from the old town. The rooms were very clean. It has a lovely pool area. There was an excellent breakfast.
