Disclaimer: this is not a boutique hotel or Airbnb. After reading the reviews, I knew I had to check it out myself and what I found was an amazing stay in the Tuscan countryside, a truly authentic host, Pino, his wonderful daughter, Aurora, the best meal I had during my entire stay in Italy fresh from the garden, three friendly beautiful labradors, two donkeys, a few outdoor cats, a fireplace, an eclectic space filled with art, memories and creative expression, a living museum. Once upon a time, this is how ‘travel’ use to be …to be invited into someone’s home, into their lives, to share good food, good cheer and a few good stories. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find today. Yes indeed, the storytelling as any good storytelling happens to be, might entail some colorful language and a few good jokes at your own expense. The experience was incredibly warm and engaging, ‘human,’ I might add, refreshing and inspiring ….filled with laughter and insight about all things, including history, culture, language. It’s located atop a hill in small hamlet overlooking what might be the prettiest valley in Tuscany, just outside of Volterra, which itself is amazing. Getting there is half the fun. Spend some time, if you can. Offer to volunteer. Truly amazing!
Hotel Le Macine has a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and restaurant in Montaione.

I can't say enough good about this place. When we arrived, it was late, we had been travelling for 30 hours. They served us dinner and made us feel very welcome. The location and view from the restaurant was spectacular. The staff was so helpful and friendly. They helped us with travel and just everyday questions. They went above and beyond. I highly recommend staying here. We hated to leave.
The property, nestled in the rolling Tuscan hills, consists of a main building and a converted tobacco warehouse, hosting in total 146 rooms and suites.

Out of my 10 day vacation in Italy, I have to say this has been the best experience, and the highlight of my kids as we learned to make pizza in Agriturimso Diacceroni. While the place was beautiful, close to towns like Volterra, it was the people that made this experience a once in a lifetime opportunity, and the culture of the people is reflected on legacy that is built upon this place and rich history. From the very start when we ate dinner, Ileana made us feel very special, we quickly connected with her and made us feel right at home. The next day she gave us the pizza cooking class and she poured her soul, teaching us about the intracacies of the dough, the fresh ingredients, the cooking process. During this trip we went to Rome, Venize, Florence and while we did good tours and spectacular scenary, it was Ileana’s pizza cooking class that was the true highlight of the vacation for my family (wife and kids) and through her, we were very grateful to getting to know the local culture.

So far the very best accomodation I had anywhere in the world. The service was something else, they deserve 1000000000 stars, not just 10!
I hope I get to come back soon! ❤️

A short drive from Volterra in the countryside. A working farm making a variety of cheeses. The room was spacious. Dinner was delicious. Breakfast choices outstanding. We were able to drive to Volterra with its many attractions in under 15 minutes. A highlight for us was touring the cheese making facilities. Our host was accommodating and pleasant.
Featuring garden views, Locanda Prato d'Era in Volterra provides accommodations and a garden. The bed and breakfast also features free Wifi, free private parking, and facilities for disabled guests.

The breathtaking views and exceptional staff were by far what made our stay excellent. The servers worked so hard to accommodate everyone’s wishes. The special gatherings and pizza night were so much fun. They had a DJ for some entertainment and every one, of all ages, was dancing. It had such a family feel. The food and wine were delicious and very authentic.
