Property is dated, the food is terrible and the staff at the front not kind or welcoming. The hotel was literally kept at such a high heat we couldn’t breathe. It’s definitely one to avoid and the only bad experience in our 10 days so far. NOT WORTH THE PRICE in any way!!!

Everything was perfect. Amazing staff, facilities, rooms, golf simulator. Honestly the first time I have ever paid for a more luxury room and thought it was worth over the value I paid.

Great resort! I wish I had more time for a longer stay. The room was amazing, and the view is beautiful. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Dinner was also very good, and the customized embroidered napkin was a memorable keepsake. I'd definitely stay here again when visiting Atami

Atami was lovely!
The train station is larger than expected with many buses going in all directions. There are lockers to store bags and a couple food options close.
I took buses everywhere. The Pasmo card works in Atami.
There is shopping and food throughout downtown. There are several hot springs to see in town.
The beach was peaceful in February. I watched the sunrise over the water.
By accident I found the bus to the Mt Fuji overlook.
2 days was not quite enough to see everything.
My hotel KKR Atami had an Onsen with a sauna with a cold pool, bubbling pool, inside and outside still pool.
I would visit again!

Atami is a nice little city with great seafood, but the prices are almost twice as high as Tokyo prices. After a few days there isn’t much to do but it is a great little city, just be conscious of what your paying for.

Booked a one night stay as a stop gap and loved it.
Booked a one night stay as a stop gap and loved it. Thankfully arrived early enough to dump our bags and head to the beach for the afternoon, not too crowded on a Saturday (May) and had a lovely swim, fish but not great visibility and some rubbish but had worse.
Had a great seafood dinner, live abalone and buzzing street life.
Stayed at Minori villa which was lovely, amazing view but bit of a climb. The shrine with the big tree was the best temple experience both 9pm in deadly silence and with the crowds the next day.

It's a beautiful town/city, not very many foreign tourists (that I saw). It's a great place to wind down and relax on a beach on one side and nature on the other. I don't like hot springs but I heard that they are also very nice there.

The location at the ocean side, with stunning views from Atami hills, the little fishing port and its numerous eateries with freshest possible ingredients, busy shopping avenue at the train station, historic Kiunkaku Villa and garden, serving as the town's cultural centre, where I spent hours strolling and talking to various artists and artisans exhibiting their work, charming ladies at the villa's cafe, and the gem - MOA museum, what a great find! All this makes me long to come to Atami yet again during my next trip to Japan :-)

I didn't technically stayed in Atami city center, but a small town called Ajiro which is only two stations away from Atami, and our ryokan is 4 minutes walk from the station. It's a serene place with perfect combination of sea view and hot spring. The town is small, but it has quite some awesome restaurants ran by local people. I would recommend Satsuki Sushi and Shogyo Seafood Restaurant, premium quality food with very affordable price.
Ajiro is definitely an underrated town. Since the town center is both close to the JR train station and the seaside, it's a good place to stay and easy to travel between the izu towns by JR.

Room has a ocean view. Although the room location can't really make us see the sunrise, I think it's okay at this price.
Breakfast is homey type of Japanese breakfast.
There is one shared bathoom on each floor which is convenient for those who who dun go to the hotel onsen.
Scenery was great, food choices were plentiful, very basic hotel, dated. Value for money. Early chkout but we left the bags there and wondered around the night Property. Difficult to maintain such a hug Property, unlike the Japanese to not upkeeping it well.
The staff at Maruya were very friendly and accommodating. The Japanese style breakfast was lovely. We bought the fish from the shop opposite the guest house and cooked the meal at Maruya. Miso soup and rice were provided by Maruya for a small (300yen fee).
