We loved it. The hotel is built on a cliff right over the beach and offers great vistas of Kagoshima bay from every window.
The room was spacious and clean. Wonderful Japanese breakfast. The staff was professional and attentive (special thanks to Para) both at reception and at the breakfast service.
Located right in front of the shore, guests at Ibusuki Phenix Hotel can enjoy "Sunamushi" sand hot-spring baths and request for relaxing massages.

Fantastic retro style hotel. Lovely staff, great rooms, delicious breakfast buffet. We did the supplemental sand baths which I'd highly recommend to anyone. Gorgeous views and great price. Would 100% come back and stay again.

The front desk staff were very nice. Since Ibusuki is a very small town and the Go app doesn't work there, the front desk helped us to call a taxi. They also recommended a great izakaya within walking distance. This hotel is great because you can get the black sand bath right at the hotel. We arrived late and still managed to do the black sand bath, then enjoyed the huge onsen on the top floor with beautiful views of the ocean. It was wonderful. The dressing area of the onsen was large and had many amenities at each mirror station that were needed to get ready. Top it all off with free popsicles on your way out! We had a very nice tatami room. My parents had a huge 2 bed Western room. They had room with the beds, a living area with electric reclining chairs and a tatami room off to the side. Both rooms had a balcony with ocean views! A nice touch was the hot water pot and tea bags and snacks that were provided. There were also free non-alcoholic drinks in the lobby from 3-7pm I think. We only stayed overnight, but I wish we had another day to enjoy a bit more of the town and the beach and to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the views.

It’s puzzling that this place has a rating of only around 8. In my view it is a solid 10. We received a warm welcome from the staff. The hotel establishment is spotless and tastefully done. The outdoor onsen is small but exquisite. We had terrific food and still the rate was so reasonable. Apart from a location that is a little far from the center of Ibusuki, there is nothing I would fault. Definitely a place to return to.

Exceptional stay at Ginsyou! Check-in was super easy; they have multilingual front desk staff who speak Japanese, English, and Chinese (among others). They offered us a one-use welcome drink voucher for two glasses of Japanese tea in the lounge. If you want to go to the Saraku Sand Bath next door, you can buy vouchers from the front desk that they will charge to your room - no cash needed!
The beautiful Japanese-style room had the most magnificent view of Kagoshima Bay. I could not believe how nice it was. (Book an ocean-facing room if you can.) You can enjoy a shower and bath with the same view. They had all the amenities plus complimentary skincare products!
I HIGHLY recommend booking dinner and breakfast. They're delicious, and there are not that many options for food nearby. We arrived at the dining space at 6:30 PM to find a full spread of fresh food. Our server, Gen, provided descriptions of the courses and instructions on how to eat certain dishes. It was a multi-course meal and there was so much food we almost couldn't finish it all! Very delicious and fresh, and included not only sashimi but also local specialties like satsuma-age and kurobuta. Breakfast was less hefty but equally varied, fresh, and delicious. Amazing value for the price.
During dinner, the staff will make your beds. The floor futons were so soft and comfortable. I took the opportunity that night to hit the onsen. They have two onsen - one public bath on the 2nd floor, and one rotenburo (open-air bath) on the 9th floor. Both were excellent, but I especially loved the rotenburo at night and in the early morning. Bathing under the moonlight in near pitch darkness, or taking a shower while taking in the breathtaking daytime views, are memories I'll never forget.
Don't miss the chance to have an authentic, relaxing, premium ryokan experience at Ginsyou - for a great price!

This trip was truly special.
This trip was truly special. Thanks to the hotel's consideration, we were able to have a more perfect time. The view of the sea from the room was truly overwhelming, and the open view instantly relieved the fatigue of the day. The interior of the room was also clean and luxurious, making it very comfortable. In particular, the friendly service of the staff was the most memorable. They always welcomed us with a bright smile and sincere response. The whole process from check-in to check-out was sm

Ibusuki is a wonderful location with great food, great...
Ibusuki is a wonderful location with great food, great beaches and even better people.
On first look it may look like it has had it’s high tide many years ago, there is so much potential and there are projects in place to rejuvenate and inspire. A new beach is being created to capitalise on the existing beautiful white beach a 10min walk from the station.
Also! World famous award-winning ramen just 200m from the station at Menya Jiro (New Yorkers may already know that name).
Enjoy the unique to Ibusuki volcanic sand bath and cross the street for a simple and tasty meal at Angel or grab some tasty treats at the store downstairs.
Sadly, the best beaches are private at overpriced and stuck-in-the-80s hotels so stay at Kokoro-no-Yado for a reasonably priced spa experience with a walk across a sandbar to the island of Chiranjima. Then hit the beach I mentioned earlier and bring a parasol or anything for shade and enjoy the sparkling water.
Visit Ibusuki, walk around and see what it was and can be. Support Ibusuki. I think you’ll agree it’s worth your time.

My wife and I had a wonderful Japanese ryokan experience at Syusuien. The service provided by the ryokan was top-notch, and we enjoyed genuine and unique traditional Japanese hospitality.
We stayed for two nights, with breakfast and dinner included. Every dining experience was unique, featuring fine dining-quality dishes made with local Kagoshima seasonal ingredients.
The room we stayed in offered beautiful ocean views, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing and tranquil moment at Ibusuki.
Large comfortable room, friendly and very helpful hosts (we were picked up/dropped off at railway station on arrival/departure), bit out of main area, but centre of town only about 15 mins walk away. Host knows the area really well and can make recommendations on sights, day-trips, restaurants etc. We had the optional meal at the ryokan one night which was superb.
The hotel is located in a beautiful natural setting, on the seafront and with spectacular views. The hotel staff treated us very kindly and helped us with everything we needed. They even picked us up and took us to the station when we left. They made us feel at home! Highly recommended
The staff is helpful, and the hotel located right in front of the sandy beach. The opened air onsen has a beautiful sea view. My room has a sea view too. The bed is firm enough comfortable and spacious.
