It is a very nice and comfortable place. It even provided a message chair for you to use. The private onsen is very clean, half outdoor. The food is fantastic. The staff are vey nice even they can’t speak English but still very helpful. We enjoyed our stay a lot.

There’s nothing much for onsen facility so pls don’t expect too much! Very small and only one public bathtub was there. However the staff were very kind and willing to help all the time. Location wise, you need to use taxi and there is an extra call fare and it was not cheap. So you can consider this as well!

Here is a little far from the yufuin center or station. But the hotel-keeper would drive you to the hotel or back to the centre before certain timing if you communicated this matter with him previously :)

The owner of Takeya was extremely helpful and friendly during our stay, driving us to and from the JR station. The breakfast was different on both days and was sincerely prepared in a home-styled manner (grilled salmon for the second day which I forgot to take a picture of as I was in a rush). For dinner, we were given wagyu shabu shabu on the 1st day, and Korean styled BBQ on the 2nd day which were both of high quality meat. Has a convenience store within a few minute walk. Provided Netflix access on room televisions.

A super elegant, modern hotel. Hotel room is big & beautiful. We booked 2 rooms. One for us & other one for our son. Hotel arranged a connecting room to us. Staff are very helpful & attentive. I didn’t know the restaurant is a 2 Michelin stars until arrived. The chef serves very good food from farm to table. Although most are vegetables but very delicious.

    Friendly staff, spacious room with comfortable bedding. Wonderful mountain views from the room. Quirky location inside the village based on theme characters. Be aware the hotel has no meal facilities but there is a Lawson nearby and several restaurants within walking distance.

    We went to Yufuin and Beppu, Yufuin by the touristy train (...

    We went to Yufuin and Beppu, Yufuin by the touristy train (book a month earlier and reserve your seats!), then we took the bus from Yufuin to Beppu and did the onsen tours on our own by bus. Not much to do in Beppu other than the onsens, perhaps go to other nearby places too.

    Excellent location.

    Excellent location. Not far from Fukuoka and we drive all the way from the airport within 2 hours. Best retreat so far and we will definitely go back in different seasons. Driving to places are simple and easy. Can go to mountain hike or the lake areas.

    A very lovely town.

    A very lovely town. But too many tourists during the weekend. Too many Korean tourists, which quite some of them are lack of manners, speaking too too loudly, taking pictures everywhere, dominating the roads while walking with groups...

    Yufu is one of those places where the place itself is...

    Yufu is one of those places where the place itself is wonderful but the vibe from other tourists and angry, upset staff members in shops can really darken an otherwise bright experience. It reminded me a lot of Kyoto in that way. The place, the shops, the scenery are all great... but tourists tend to be pushy, demanding, selfish, etc. And this leads many of the staff of establishments to be cold, distant, or upset; and rightfully so. I would like to go back there and spend more time at one of the inns. The staff there are usually very kind and helpful, and the spaces are very comfortable. But the place itself I could take a pass on.

    We stay in Yufuin for 2 days, but travel 1 day to Beppu and...

    We stay in Yufuin for 2 days, but travel 1 day to Beppu and the other in Yufuin. Yufuin is an absolutely lovely place. Every thing is so cute! And a lot of street food along the way. The best thing is Onsen Ryokan! Don't miss to enjoy traditional Japanese style accommodation. The thing I don't like here is that shops mostly close around 5PM, staff (both in hotel and shop) don't really speak English. They will try to explain to you, but in Japanese TT Also, trash bins are hard to find along the street. I really enjoy the accommodation here, and the city is just too cute. You can take photos in almost every corner. This city is a MUST!

    Very spacious room that comes with its own private onsen. The location is outside of Yufuin however it is still worth considering given the room price versus other hotels. If possible, you could arrange with the owner to pick you up from Yufuin
