A Truly Enchanting Escape to Makunudu Island
Our recent stay at Makunudu Island was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility and natural beauty that truly captivated us.
While the bungalows might show a touch of age, this in no way detracted from the overall experience. In fact, it almost added to the island's rustic charm. What truly shone was the incredible ambiance of being on this idyllic island, especially when shared with someone dear. There's a certain magic in the air that allows you to simply be yourselves and soak in the breathtaking surroundings.
The culinary experience was a definite highlight. Each meal was a delight, showcasing fresh and delicious flavors that left us completely satisfied.
The staff at Makunudu also deserve high praise. They were incredibly welcoming and helpful, always ready with a smile and assistance, yet they perfectly balanced this with a respectful distance, allowing us the space and privacy to fully enjoy our time together and the island's serenity.
The natural beauty of Makunudu is simply stunning. Whether exploring the vibrant underwater world while snorkeling or diving, or simply gazing at the crystal-clear turquoise waters surrounding the island, every moment felt like a postcard come to life.
Our holiday on Makunudu Island was more than just a getaway; it was an enchanting experience that has left a lasting impression. We were so utterly charmed by the island's unique atmosphere and beauty that we are already dreaming of our return.

Island is small and felt quite private. it was only at ~60% capacity when we were there so it was very quiet and relaxing (I think it will not feel super busy even at full capacity, which I was told is around 100 guests)
The staff is amazing (it really is!) and we where very happy with our stay.
Facilities were ok, but being a small resort there is only 1 main restaurant and 1 other a-la-carte restaurant that serves more or less the same food.
There is no concrete on the island so your feet are always on sand the moment you step outside your room (there was wood floor inside our room).
Room was decorated nicely and had all the facilities. outdoor shower was awesome (and still very private... don't worry).
the main bar and at the pool is were all the entertainment is (there could be more of it in my opinion). The Pool is nice but not massive.
Food was good (we were all-inclusive. which I recommend as there is effectively only 1 place to eat in there!). but see variety was not great. great indian curries, great stir-fries, ok pizza ok pasta and good grilled meat/fish (tuna) pretty much every day.
the staff, considering the size of the island, they go the extra mile to arrange small activities to keep guests occupied, not a lot overall but cooking class was good and the art class was also cool.
There is a small shop in the island... which has got very little in it... so bring everything you need! (but I am sure the staff will be able to accommodate any request)
Would I go back? for sure! I loved it! but if the weather is bad... there is really nothing to do in there... so bear this in mind.

Amazing hotel infrastructure, excellent food, and very helpful and professional staff. The water villas offer direct access to a shallow coral reef, perfect for snorkeling.

The snorkelling here is excellent, just walk off the beach...
The snorkelling here is excellent, just walk off the beach and you can see a host of fish including sharks. The general staff here is also excellent. Anything you ask for the staff will try and get for you. Anis and Imam in the restaurant were always excellent and friendly.
The rooms are a bit worn and need someone in charge of checking the rooms and taking care of regular maintenance. It seems that nobody ever checks or cleans the the lounging chairs on the beach. Food in the restaurant gets boring after one week, not a lot of options - one fish, one meat a few vegetarian options. The curries are very good. If you don't get to the restaurant in the first 40 min that it opens for a meal chances are most of the salads will be gone and replaced with bowls of some type of coleslaw.
The almost daily smell of motor oil on the beach near the spa was off putting.

We stayed in a Beach Villa King room for 7 days.
We stayed in a Beach Villa King room for 7 days. It was our second visit and we would come here every year if we could. It is the epitome of luxury beach living in the Maldives and is favoured by billionaires and ordinary people like us alike.
The food and service are exemplary and the staff know you by name and look after your every need. The manager Jan Tibaldi is interested in every guest.
We would recommend staying on the east side of the Island in November since the west side seems to face the prevailing winds. We asked for and got the same room that we had the first time we visited but this of course is not guaranteed.
It is a good place for families but catered equally well for couples. The amount of space that you have is amazing, there is about 800m of beach shared between 10 villas so it's unusual to see anyone else.
Reef life under our water villa was amazing and snorkels are highly recommended to explore them.
It would be helpful for the hotel to more clearly point out places where the half board allowance does not apply at all (for example the Fanditha buffet night and the food market night). However the central restaurant core had so much variety that eating a different menu there every night for 10 nights would not exhaust the selection.
We are looking forward to our next visit.
