Great location, one of the comfiest hostel beds I've ever stayed in. Clean tidy and social. Can't ask for much better from a hostel. Would definitely book again.

We loved staying at the Tongariro Crossing Lodge, the staff were so friendly, we really enjoyed the cooked breakfasts. They booked the shuttles for the Alpine Crossing which all worked out well.
Plateau Lodge is located 15 minutes’ drive from UNESCO World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park, where guests can enjoy skiing, hiking, cycling and paddling activities.

My partner and I stayed for two nights at National Park Backpackers and had a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel very welcome — they were friendly, approachable, and always happy to help with any questions we had about the area or facilities.
We booked a private room, which was spotless and well-maintained. The bed was comfortable — we slept really well both nights — and the room had everything we needed for a cozy stay. The shower was also excellent, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water, which was perfect after a day of exploring.
The common areas were clean and inviting, and the overall atmosphere of the place was relaxed and friendly. It’s also in a great location if you’re planning to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing or just enjoy the beauty of the National Park area.
We really enjoyed our time here and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Highly recommended!

National Park walks were stunning and the area truly deserves its World Heritage status. You could choose the difficulty and timing of your hikes. Easy to find your way round. Use some sandfly repellent and soother on hikes as you might be bitten. The bites are not pleasant and take a few days to stop itching. We had great accomodation which allowed us to self-cater- so no restaurant reviews.

It's a decent small town in the middle of no where in rural nature. Close to the National Park town and Tongariro/ Ruapehu mountains. No real commodities in terms of gas stations and shops however but the National Park Town is only 5 minutes away.

It wasn’t what I expected.
It wasn’t what I expected. They couldn’t find or confirm my booking. The room that was offered to me was made up in a hurry. The cost was more than what was expected via Booking.com. I ended paying $20.00 extra.
