Rooms in Ayala Tower very smelly because bathrooms moldy. I was visiting alternative room in other floor same tower same problem. Now moved to other tower 1 BR Executive - no smell. To bad I wasn't offered a solution earlier.

FAQs about hotels in Manila

The City of Our Affections

With a rich mix of influences from Indian, Chinese, Spanish and American cultures, Manila is the vibrant capital of the Philippines and its cultural and economic center. Thanks to the trade with Latin America during the three centuries of Spanish colonization, Manila became an important city, known as the "Pearl of the Orient."

Don’t miss a visit to the Spanish remains in the Intramuros district. Important landmarks in the area are the Malacañan Palace, the City Hall, and the Manila Cathedral.

Rizal Park is a national icon, while the Baywalk promenade is great for enjoying the well-known city sunsets. Ermita and Malate districts are famous for the nightlife, trendy shopping and restaurants, as well as for some luxury Manila hotels. Between the promenade and the districts, its easy to see why Filipinos call Manila “The City of Our Affections,” where the people's love affairs with fashion, music, entertainment and sheer fun are on bright and beautiful display.

Divisoria is a traditional district for local shopping, bargains and typical food. Binondo is the oldest Chinatown in the world.

For hotels in Manila near the airport, Ninoy Aquino International Airport is not far from Makati City.

    Manila is Manila.

Manila is Manila. Manila airport is ranked one of the worse in the world, and it is. Not too user friendly, but the people working there are nice and will help you. You have to expect traffic wherever you go. Be sure to download the GRAB app (similar usage to the Uber app) to get around. Food is inexpensive. People are helpful. Have patience. If you want to exchange US Dollars to Pesos, bring your passport to set-up an account first with one of the money exchanges places.

Manila is a beautiful place with a lot of places to visit. The problem is that you may find yourself spending a considerable amount of time in traffic trying to get from place to place. Other than the traffic issues Manila is a wonderful place.

Although really congested now with more high rises and lots of motorcycles for rides on the road, I am happy people are able to earn extra money to survive with more job opportunities available for them. But I hope they can all get better pay to be able to bring them up to the status of middle class at least.

Manila is a big congested city and only spent a couple days there. One of the must see's, if you like history, is Fort Santiago which has the destroyed U.S. Military barracks from WW2. While the fort dates back to the late 1500's most of sites relate to WW2 along with all the soldiers and civilians that were tortured or killed in the dungeon during this period. Within a short 5 minute walk is several other tourist areas / museums such as touring an old home, good restaurants etc. The entrance fee to Fort Santiago was 70 Pesos (cash only) which is less than $1.50 USD.

A city of contrasts with high-end areas abutting shacks and poverty. The city itself functions more as a center of business and work and as a hub for getting to other places in the Philippines. Many of the people are very sweet but they have third-world problems of basic subsistence, and that can wear on a person with empathy and conscience. Prices are low compared to Tokyo, HK, Taipei, and Singapore, so the overall expense is lower. The food is terrible -- salty, not good quality cuts of beef or fish, tons of MSG, and this is why people get obese as they age. The decades of corruption have left a people who are beaten down and have fallen behind the Asian Tigers. The people speak English which makes life easy but you will lose your Chinese (this is a problem for foreigners like me). I would say do a few days here and then go elsewhere. It lacks the creativity and cute little places of London and New York.

As a guest who has visited all four and five star hotels in Makati during many stays in Manila, I have to say that in my opinion the Sommerset central stands out among these good hotels. Of course, every rating depends on personal preferences, but I particularly like this hotel too because of the friendliness of the staff. In general, employees in the Philippines try far more to be helpful than in many other countries. but in the summer set Central they are slightly surpassed

Great location for the sights of 'Old Manila' - most of the colonial-era sights were within walking distance and there were nearby restaurants and cafes. There is also a great view from the rooftop restaurant and bar. The roof top restaurant is highly recommended. I would also suggest accepting the hotel's offer of transport from the airport to the hotel as Arrivals at Manila Airport can be chaotic!

The hotel looks very fancy and nice. The staff is super friendly, and the room is comfortable and spacious, with great Wi-Fi and an excellent table for working. There is a secret restaurant in the hotel, which makes the experience even better, and the breakfast is very good and rich. The staff is exceptionally nice. I’ve been to a few hotels in Manila, and this is the best.
