It's a really interesting city, architectural, but for a traveller, it was surprisingly expensive. I haven't been to Manhattan recently, but beer proved a hefty $8. I wouldn't buy anything you don't absolutely need here. Definitely, not diner, shopper-friendly. Public transport was mediocre and confusing (not foreigner friendly). Mostly I was in the neighborhood of the Hotel Drakon for the film festival, which means it's just one giant construction zone, so that wasn't too welcome. Gothenburg, a way too expensive, except this hotel. How, I have no Idea. Airport is "keep away" expensive, Scandic Landvetter good but unreasonable expensive. Gothenburg is a great place to visit for a weekend if you want to only visit the City Center or a week if you want to explore the surrounding areas including a few of the hundred or so Islands all linked by ferries which can be accessed via the tram network. It's a small city so you can basically walk everywhere but has an excellent tram/bus/ferry network if you don't walk to walk. There is a vast array of shops, restaurants and bars to keep every one happy. There are also some interesting museums and a great fun park called Liseberg with some thrilling rides. You can jump on a Paddan boat from Kungsportsplatsen and travel through a number of the canals that circle the City Center, but watch your head as some of the bridges are very low! Go to Heaven 23 at the top of the Gothia Towers for their famous open prawn sandwich while taking in the amazing views over the whole city. The city seemed pleasant and calm. It was also relatively clean here, weather that is to be expected in a city by the sea. The atmosphere was created by the lights everywhere, it was perfect.
