A good value, clean and spacious hotel room. Friendly staff and a really good breakfast in the morning. The sauna was an added bonus.

The breakfast is excellent with plenty of choice.
The rooms were very typical for this type of hotel. The layout of the place is unusual with lots of connecting doors and steps up and down to various levels.
The Thai restaurant that is on the premises is more like a cafeteria, but the food is OK and very cheap.
Providing mountain views, Máttaráhkká Northern Light Lodge in Kiruna provides accommodation, a shared lounge, a bar and ski-to-door access. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property.

Perfect location surrounded by nature and away from the city, there are snowshoes and skis that can be used for free. Some activities, such as snowmobiles, have the starting point at the same hotel, since they share an adventure agency.

Fully functional kitchen, although I did not use the water cooker or microwave, so I can't talk about these. Can opener is missing.

Amazing place, comfortable and cozy, great design.. With view over a frozen river we could watch dog sleds, snow mobiles and even reindeers passing. Perfect spot to visit Jukkasjärvi and also to watch the northern lights!

Kiruna is a beautiful place with extraordinary winterscapes during the day and even more so on a moonlight night.. The cherry in the top was the extraordinary experience of being blessed by aurora corona and aurora borealis sighting every night we were there ..
More over the museum explaining sami culture and giving us sn opportunity to be amongst reindeer was so soulful.. the extraordinary sculptures of ice and snow at the ice hotel , their classic warming drink in ice glasses was something else .. needless to say , it is a ‘must experience ‘ place.

Walking through the woods outside the town was the best...
Walking through the woods outside the town was the best thing for us - especially seeing the first sunrise of the year! Not a lot to see in Kiruna itself, but the Ice Hotel and the Sami museum at Jukkasjarvi are a short bus ride away. We would have liked to have visited Kiruna Church, but it's being moved! It was at Kiruna where we got our best view of the Northern Lights. We enjoyed burgers at the Empes place in Kiruna, but mostly cooked for ourselves as we had our own kitchen. There is a ski slope but it looks very limited.

Kiruna is a weird town that is in the midst of being moved due to the mine expanding. It is very difficult to get around without a car, there are buses but taxis are extortionately priced & buses don’t go everywhere!
There’s a lovely little ski field but we had to walk there as no public transport to get to it, it’s bizarre that it’s not promoted more for tourists.
We had the best time dog sledding with Arctic Dog Sled and the food at Spill Saluhall & Eatery was delicious.

Staff a front desk could be a little friendlier, shower curtain a little longer. Orientation to first time visitors could be more comprehensive as we did not even told that there was a gym (only a spa).

They are moving the city so the old city looks like a ghost town. There is almost nothing to do and you don't see people on the street. Lots of accumulated snow and many fenced areas. The new city is not well established. It looks like a construction site and has few restaurant options. I didn't find any souvenir shops open to buy gifts. The center closes at 3pm and there is nothing to do in the city. I recommend taking trips outside the city, such as sledding, snowmobiling, and not wasting time in the city center until the move is completely completed.

A super cute small town in the middle of the Swedish arctic.
A super cute small town in the middle of the Swedish arctic. Make sure to book your tours in advance as there is not too much to do in Kiruna itself. Walking through the city and the surrounding nature is absolutely gorgeous in winter. Take care that the Buses needed to go to different places are very unreliable and don't run on weekends or holidays (especially the ones going to ICE hotel and jukkasväri). Not many restaurant options and many were closed when I was there (Christmas time) or closed early.

Great facilities, calm area, plenty of opportunity for activities such as minigolf. The sauna and spa area was exceptional! Preordered also a cheese plate for the spa which was delicious and looked like art. Breakfast was one of the best we’ve had at a hotel. Highly recommend the stay. :)
The comfort of the hotel. Friendly staff who try to make the best of your stay. Comfortabel beds. Beautiful view from the sauna and Top bar. Supermarket and some simple restaurants near by. Good breakfast buffet.
