The hotel is located just next to the airport, which is perfect option for evening flight from Lisboa (avoiding hustle taxi dark ride 15 min. to the center of the city). Location is very safe, there is a simple but tasty restaurant inside the hotel and the other one just next to the hotel (Tia Nanda), so no worries being hungry (fish, octopus, chicken, and always fried banana + rice). Staff can help you change euros to dobras with absolute fair rate - just write a message ahead and agree on amount needed.
Breakfast is very pleasant - quite and relaxing (omelette, fruits, juice, yogurt, bread, butter).
Lunch and dinner: fish and octopus were amazing and drinks were nice and cold (bear and all softs).

My stay in Hotel Kriola surpassed all my expectations. Kriola is a small, familiar hotel facing Ana Chavez bay. If you are looking for a comfortable, well located place, look no further.
The room was spacious and the bed extremely comfy. The room had AC, a small fridge and an amazing bathroom. Breakfast is diverse and buffet style.
The hotel is extremely clean and located next to the biggest supermarket in all São Tomé island. You'll be located within 10mins walk to all the major interest points (the Museum, Papa Figos restaurant, city centre, Diogo Vaz chocolate showroom, etc...).
The swimming pool was amazing to relax in the afternoon.
The staff is amazing and will go above and beyond to assist you. Dinner here was one of the best meals of my holiday (I was in Sao Tomé for 9 days so it says a lot).
When we arrived at São Tome, we stayed 2 nights in Pestana and I wished I had stayed in Kriola instead because it was, by far, the best hotel in the whole island.
I travelled with a 6 year old.

Sao Tome island is incredible, even though the slowness of things here can get annoying. Sometime you can't get service even if you pay extra. Taxis are super expensive, so better rent a car or take a guided tour. Actually I strongly recommend to take a guided tour at least the first day. Most people don't speak English, just Portugese.

Very humid and not really geared up for tourists.
Very humid and not really geared up for tourists. Getting taxis unless you speak Portugese is difficult except from a hotel. Mainly cloudy in early March. The museum in the light house is very interesting.
Meals out were variable but often with large portions particularly of rice.

Every country has its interesting sights and so has Sao Tomé. It is worth a visit. It is much more African than Cabo Verde. It lacks however the traditional villages like Benin or Togo. I was a bit disappointed by the quality of its beaches and the snorkeling. There is not much of coral, but there are colourful fishes and large quantities. There are great hiking possibilities in dry season in beautiful green plantation or forests. It is a lot safer than many other African destination. There are beautiful birds, but no large animals in the natural parks.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Paradise Agua Leve in Sao Tome, and it was an incredible experience! From the moment I arrived, the hotel staff made me feel welcome by picking me up at the airport, which was a fantastic start to my trip.
The location is unbeatable, just steps away from a beautiful beach where I could relax and soak up the sun. The hotel itself was comfortable and well-maintained, offering all the amenities I needed for a perfect getaway.
The breakfast was outstanding with lots of fruit, as well as eggs and bread. Just delicious. The manager was super responsive--he always responded to texts within minutes. Additionally, he gave me a ride to/from the airport. He also helped set up hiking up Sao Tome Peak. WiFi was good and reliable. It is also within walking distance to downtown Sao Tome and lots of stores and restaurants. Bed was comfortable.
This property is exceptional, the architecture & design is well thought through with the needs of guests. Customer care is first class, management on hand to ensure that all the needs of guests are met. From the meet & greet at the airport, tour advise and history about Sao Tome.
