Austin is a city like no other in Texas. A haven for the cool and creative, musicians and music fans flock by the hundreds to this ‘Live Music Capital of the World’ for yearly festivals like Austin City Limits and South by Southwest.
Historic downtown Austin is the seat of Texas government, and the seat of fun and entertainment for locals and visitors. Congress Avenue is the main artery through the city centre, leading you to the impressive Texas State Capitol building at the end. Just off Congress is 6th Street, the popular entertainment district with its quirky bars and fine restaurants.
Away from the hustle and bustle is tranquil Zilker Park, a 350 acre oasis in the heart of the city. Here you can wander through the Zilker Botanical Gardens, or take a dip in the inviting Barton Springs Pool, a natural spring where locals swim year round. A walk around Town Lake at sunset is a must.
Austin is also home to the University of Texas, where about 50,000 students are enrolled each year which ensures a fun and youthful atmosphere throughout the city.

Austin is a beautiful city and I highly recommend it. Lots of great sights, fun restaurants and nightlife as well as friendly ppl and there is an abundance of things to do for every age group. I did find it a bit expensive but there are lots of great places to eat that are more affordable if you look around. A lot of ppl said you need a car in Austin but I thought it was very walkable and Ubers/Waymo (self driving cars) are everywhere and they are not too expensive. Taxis are EXPENSIVE!
Taxis are EXPENSIVE! Car rentals sounded reasonable BUT parking at hotel ridiculous rates upwards of $50.00 per DAY..KC your resorts policy... Enjoyed the in town experience a block away from the Capitol.. Couple blocks away from downtown(6th street) night life Good restaurants everywhere.. The Metro bus was fun to use for shopping.. 24 hr pass was $2.50... Nobody harassing on the street(daytime) Don’t know about after hours.. I go to Austin every year.. I thoroughly enjoyed the Elephant Jazz Club. It was a relaxed atmosphere with a GREAT JAZZ BAND!!! The Downtown area was lively and bright. We used a Lyft to get around, the traffic was thick. Austin is great with lots of AMAZING restaurants and fun activities. We very much enjoyed Sapori Italian Roots, Arriba Abajo, County Line (BBQ) for food. The capital was an awesome sight to see and tour. We enjoyed indoor mini golf at Holey Moley downtown. I have mixed feelings about this city.
I have mixed feelings about this city. I moved there in 1987..about 400,000 people at that time. The city council kept voting down infrastructure as un-needed, till it became needed. NOW 2+ million people live in the same area. Amazing. PEOPLE everywhere. There seems to be more cars than people now. What Austin used to be, is no longer there. Many good eateries went out of business with the plague. Music venues are still about, but $$$ If you are young, like 20's 30's ... You will love it. You could not blow that age group out of there with a canon....But, after you figure how much it costs to live there, you make less than $100k OR you have a young family, you will not love how far your money goes. And it Go's..and Go's.. tolls, food, rent or property tax. BUT you dont pay a state income tax OR tax on your groceries...Neat huh??
