Avon is an island located exactly in the best spot for both myself, Chris my associate and his wife Nichole 1st timers fishing the tournament. Three night stay, got in Wednesday, I left rested early Saturday, had the best time forgetting work, life, stress as soon as we got out of the truck in Avon and smelled the salt air. I cannot say enough about the last 40 miles. The bridges are marvelously done and getting out at Avon and smelling clean salt air was perfect The Avon hotel was clearly located perfectly with the facilities large parking lot. Checking in was flawless and the staff was very helpful with questions and suggestions and made us feel very welcome without any pushy rude attitudes and immediately mad us feel like family. We did not expect top of line and really only needed a clean quiet place to unwind after the day on the beach. We read all the comments and understood some peoples expectations are not everyones needs. The staff was as nice and friendly as well as everyone else that we met staying there. North Carolina Hatterous fishing people are some of the best we met The rooms had queen beds, clean linens, plenty of toiletries, coffee cream sugar and everything we expected. We understood it was not a new facility but all we needed was supplied by the staff when we needed anything. Left the dirty linens in the morning and after a full day of fishing we needed the near new renovated cleanest/shower, toliet and sink areas. New linens were on the door because staff is not allowed into our rooms . Free bag of ice is available , there is a broom/dust pan that allowed us to remove the sand we brought in on us . The best clean hot water, no smelly, irony or sulfur yellow iron stains anywhere and to just relax was absolutley exactly what was needed. They are not perfect but perfection is in what you really want to pay for and your attitude going in makes everything better. I am coming back if invited to fish next year.

We was to have a King bed. Had 2 queens. Bed we slept in you rolled to middle. Floors were black. I spilt water and omg the white towel was black when we finished. We was inside, when I booked was to be outside. Decor from 1960 and smelled liked 1960. Staff was great.

If you’re looking for a beach with a boardwalk and lots of hotels and nightlife, Avon isn’t the place. None of the OBX really is. If you’re looking for a laid-back, island-style life for a week though, Avon is certainly it. The whole aura of the village and most of the southern Outer Banks is this way, and it’s why I love the area so much. No highrises or clubs, just miles and miles of relatively untouched beaches and small villages. No pretentious dining, no Michelin Stars, no black-tie venues, just hole in the wall joints serving local fare to folks straight off the beaches. This place will always be “beach” to me - when I think of a beach, I always have and always will think fondly of my many weeks spent relaxing and unwinding in Avon

We have been going to Avon for vacation for several years.

We have been going to Avon for vacation for several years. There are lots of good shops, restaurants and attractions nearby and the beach is usually perfect for family outings - temperate waters and calm surf - unfortunately this trip coincided with a tropical storm and while we still got to spend time on the beach the surf was often too rough to swim.

Staying in the northern section of Avon got you onto a very wide section of the beach. We wandered down to the pier, where the beach is far narrower. You are still only 5 minutes from grocery stores, shopping and restaurants, no matter where you stay. We traveled in late April and not as many shops and restaurants were open yet, but there was enough to enjoy.

its a wonderful place. it was my second time and what surprised me this time and what was a little disappointing is the beach. it had washed a away to a large degree due to storms. I would totally recommend to anyone else, to do some research and understand the state of the beach so they know. I have now learned the beach heatlh is not a rare thing and the state spends a lot of money in efforts to dredge up and replenish sand, but it does not happen every year.

Avon offers everything we wanted for a fun beach getaway.

Avon offers everything we wanted for a fun beach getaway. Our rental has easy access to the beach, and a short walk to the pier. Avon has plenty of shopping and some nice tasting seafood and dessert shops. The location is very convenient to explore the rest of the lower outer banks too. Avon is just a short drive away from most everything the outer banks has to offer.

There is so much to do in the Outer Banks and Avon is a great spot to be half way between things to do in the northern Outer Banks and the south. To the north is the aquarium, roanoke festival park, walking tours, dolphin cruises, and to the south there are light houses, museums and more beaches. There are many tourist shops along the road. Avon has the largest super market on the island.
