We loved our stay if 5 days. Basic room and breakfast, however walking distance to restaurants and downtown. Driving proximity to all the sights was great. Staff friendly as well. And, there was a washer and dryer onsite, a real plus. Would be a first choice for return visit.

The receptionist/manager was very nice and helpful. He even wheeled our luggage to our room when I took my wife in by wheel chair. He replaced my TV remote quickly and came down to make sure it worked. It looks like they are remodeling the hotel and so there was a little construction going on when we were there. When we got to our room it was much better than the hallway would have suggested. Our room was large, easy to get around in and the shower was very good.

Unfortunately it was offseason and a lot of restaurants, the brewery, and shops were closed. But it also meant fewer people. Custer is a quaint town centrally located to the state park, Rushmore, Wind Cave, and Jewel Cave. It is void of the casinos of Deadwood, and the kitschy shops of Keystone.
Liked most: Eagles Landing Lodge, beautiful setting, close to lots of cool things to do.
Liked least: Most of restaurants were closed for the season. Knowing what I know now I’d go 2-3 weeks earlier.
Bonus comment: I had a serious medical emergency while there. I live in Houston and the care I received there was equal to what I could have received at home.

The town was friendly and clean.
The town was friendly and clean. Also the eating places were great as well. We didn't see any breakfast cafe's but we were there in early October and a lot of businesses were already shut down for the normal winter weather.
But our morning muffins at the Chalet Motel were great, along with the fruit and juices. All in all, it was a great mini vacation and enjoyed all the surrounding areas.
The Wildlife Loop, Buffalo roundup, Needles Hwy, Iron Mountain Road, Spearfish area and do not miss the "Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, SD".

Custer is really a feeder town for Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore, both of which were excellent places to visit.
It is well served with eateries although all of them were very busy every evening.
Plenty of shops and a few petrol stations.
A good choice for visitors to use as a base.

The town of Custer seemed to have some interesting places.
The town of Custer seemed to have some interesting places. I was just passing through. I did eat at a bakery downtown for breakfast. Seemed to be the hot spot. Super omelet, friendly service. I resisted purchasing any of the bakery items

Ich really enjoyed this nice place. The staff was very friendly and did everything to make you feel home. Chalet Motel is within walking distance to a grocery store and to very good restaurants and bars. The main street is quiet at night and my bed was very comfortable. The room was equppied with a fridge, a microwave and a coffemaker.
Wifi worked very well, which was important for me.
Custer is close to almost all attractions of the Black Hills.
The breakfast was very good with fried eggs, sausage patties, and biscuits and gravy. The location was great only a few minutes from Custer State park and half hour from Mt. Rushmore. The outdoor access was nice to unload our stuff.
Breakfast for hotel stay was above average. Lots of choices. Location just outside town was convenient. Kitchenette was very useful with extra large room - we were very comfortable for 4 days
Customer service was fantastic. The front desk people where very Professional and friendly. Definitely would recommend this hotel. When we come back that way we will definitely stay again
