My own experience at Vail may be different than others.
My own experience at Vail may be different than others. First, we saw little to no crowds at least Mon-Fri on either the Eagle Bahn Gondola or Gondola One. Second, it snowed at least a little bit almost every day/night of our visit so there was a lot of soft snow up the mountain for us to enjoy.
Even though my physical condition didn't allow me to traverse the whole resort, it was pretty clear that there is a lot of terrain for intermediate and advanced skiers. For beginners, I would be concerned that most of the actual green runs are "catwalks" or transportation corridors that are used by all skiers. These runs may not be as steep as the Blues, but they are also very narrow and often crowded with skiiers going much faster.
Intermediate skiiers should not be intimidated by the "Legendary Back Bowls." Some of those bowls are actually quite moderate in terms of difficulty and everything is extremely well-marked and all lift-served
Vail is expensive. Everything is expensive, not just the lift tickets. I would recommend only visiting if you get an EPIC pass. The discount is really quite dramatic and you get discounts on all mountain venues like restaurants with that EPIC Pass
I was especially impressed by the technology used by the resort to share information with the guests. At your fingertips (mobile phone) you have trail maps(including which trails have been groomed)) lift wait times, your own personal stats, etc. Fantastic.

Vail resort has gotten out of control with the amount of commercial development added between transportation and the lifts. Getting to the lifts requires walking probably 2 miles in ski boots carrying skis--not my idea of a good time. There is no way to avoid a lot of walking to the lifts. Beaver Creek was much more user friendly. Paying $50 for garage parking gets you to a very short distance from the lifts. $13 gets you a shuttle bus from the surface lots that will drop you off right at the lifts. Unfortunately, Beaver Creek is not enough of a draw for me to return, so it'll be Utah skiing over Vail from now on.

It was a perfect choice to stay in vail Village.
It was a perfect choice to stay in vail Village. There were so many places to eat, lots of hiking (to make room for more eating), lots of shopping, and if we wanted, walking distance to the slopes. Although the temperatures were low (in the single digits), we were not cold. The air is very dry and won't suck the heat out of you. We were perfectly fine is our regular winter gear (we visited in December).

We had beautiful weather, a little warmer than usual but beautiful! We walked to most places from our hotel, and hopped on a couple of the local busses that travels around when we needed a little break. The passengers pleasant and kind to each other, gentlemen giving up their seats to elderly ladies, someone else helped another passenger with their stroller. Dinner at Vendettas was lovely that first night, and the staff (hostess, server and support server) very friendly, and welcoming. Dinner at Lancelot's the second night is always a must for us; we had our wedding rehearsal dinner there 30 years ago and so when we're in Vail, we always have dinner there. Excellent service, seating outside by the creek, and amazing food, of course.

It is all about the skiing for most people, and the Vail ski resort is amazing. Hard to beat as a ski destination. It is generally a very expensive place to stay but there are many options available to you.
As a town, feels a bit disjointed with the two main locations of Vail Village and Lionshead being separated. If you come without your own transport, get used to having to take buses/shuttles most places. Having said that, the transport system is incredibly good once you work it all out. Lots of places to eat, moreso in Vail Village.
As it is also under Epic Pass, easy to ski Beaver Creek during your stay in Vail, with a great (free) bus service mostly every 20 mins from Vail to BC and only takes about half an hour. It is a shame that the same is not available for Breckenridge, another Epic resort.

Beautiful Swiss ski chalet designed hotel with stunning location in the centre of town. The hotel had a heated pool and beautiful decor and we were made at home from the minute we walked in the door.
It was my husband’s birthday and the lady at reception treated us to free parking and an upgrade to the most amazing suite.
Bus stop close. I called for a request once and the phone was answered right away. Pool was great. Balcony and grill were great. TV’s were great. Kitchen and condo great. Upstairs bed could be replaced and would be nice to be replaced with king bed. Vail was great.
