Paul Wallace Wines & Cottages is a recently renovated vacation home in Elgin where guests can make the most of its garden and barbecue facilities.

The family greeted us as soon as we arrived. They helped us check in and get settled before we started our activities for the day. Paul, Nicky, and Bobby went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were also extremely helpful in finding us a driver and recommending great wine farms to visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and experience here. The beds were so comfortable. The bed linen was superb. The towels were new. Sundowner Cottage was so comfortable and had everything you might need and much more.......The outdoor braai shed was so relaxing. Loved all the furnishings too. The apple orchards looked amazing. The owners were so friendly yet unintrusive. We had such an awesome stay. Top notch self-catering stay whilst enjoying private peaceful time on a farm. Very refreshing.I would happily return here for a longer stay.

ELGIN is a beautiful valley; particularly in November when the roads are edged with roses of every description and colour. Excellent restaurants and wineries. Firm favourites remain Paul Cluver (now boasting a Bertus Basson eatery named BLOEM) and Oak Valley (under new management - a second Leigh & Brandon The Table - their first at De Meye Stellenbosch and now at Oak Valley in Elgin) And now ALMENKERK has joined our favourite ranks - their tasting venue run by an energetic and charming Famous is not to be missed.

If you like a traditional wine farm experience with an old-school country lodge this is for you. The horses were a treat and there are lovely views over the well-maintained garden. The breakfast was superb and the staff very friendly and accommodating. The room decor is a little old- fashioned and minimalist but very clean.

If you want to want to break away from a busy life then this is definitely the best place to be to recharge your batteries in this tranquil farm environment. The rooms, bathroom and lounge are all very comfortable and spacious. Don't make the mistake to stay too short! Allan is the best host you will ever find and he does everything to make your stay even more enjoyable. He puts in extra effort for a good breakfast. There is a very nice farmstall, Perigrine, just across the road, where you can have lunch etc.
