We loved the setting and all the attention to detail. A private pool and fire pit all added up to make our stay fantastic. We loved the long deep veranda and enjoyed the sunset sunrise and full moon and loads of stars. We will certainly stay for longer next time.

OK, so Graaff Reint is not your typical resort town.
OK, so Graaff Reint is not your typical resort town. It is an old Karoo town and has the feel of an old Karoo town. That said, it has a charm all its own with some of the older residential areas lined with beautiful trees and streets wider than some of the national highways in SA. The town is easy to navigate and hard to get lost in.
The town is nestled in the big horseshoe bend of the Sundays River and is nearly surrounded by Camdeboo National Park. Camdeboo National Park's big attraction is the Valley of Desolation, an impressive geologic formation. The old town of Nieu Bethesda is about 40 km north of Graaff Reinet and is an interesting place to spend a day wandering its unpaved streets and browsing its local shops and artists.

If you leave Joburg early, the clean historic town of Graaf-Reinet is a great half way point on rout to Cape Town. Once there, walk around to town. Dine at great restaurants. Visit the Valley of Dessolation.

This was an over night stay, but I hope we get to come again, stay longer and go to the local village of Nieu-Bethesda. I will would love to go to the Owl house and take the fossil tour. I would also love to explore the local art galleries.

The cottage is in a really nice renovated historic part of town. Lot's to see around there, like several museums. Also good restaurants and even a golf course. And of course on Saturday morning jogging just outside town. Friends of us have also already visited.

Graaff-Reinet is one of the more interesting and beautiful towns in South Africa. The Rupert family have ensured it maintains its charm. The town is clean, well looked after, and interesting. There is a fascinating history to the whole area. The surrounding areas are worth exploring. Great sunsets from the top of the surrounding hills. Camdeboo is fascinating and worth taking time to explore. The Valley of Desolation is worth the time taken to explore its nooks and crannies.
