The property was perfectly located with a wonderful view of the river and the mountains beyond. The river was right there at the bottom of the garden. Our charming host met us with the keys, gave us a tour of the property and gave us recommendations for dinner. Our little dog was very welcome. The property was very spacious, comfortable, well appointed and waking distance to town.

What a beautiful little town Stanford is! Lots to do and lots to see!

Stanford is a small village located 21.5 km east of Hermanus, close to but not on the Indian Ocean, on the main road to Gansbaai. It is well serviced with shops, filling statons and restaurants and is close to several wine producing areas such as the 'Hemel and Aarde' valley.
It's size is perhaps one of it's main attractions, as it affords the right ambiance for the traveller to relax and unwind from the daily hallenges of city living.
We stayed at the Strandfontein Wine Farm, 7 km from the village, where we utilised their excellent dining facilities, but there are several restaurants of good quality in the village. The village centre is small enough to cover by walking, and the traffic is very light for pedestrians.

A quaint little town about 20 mins from Gansbaai .
A quaint little town about 20 mins from Gansbaai . Some lovely little restauarants in town & La Casita where we stayed was wonderful , from the warm welcome by Lyn on day 1 to the unexpected tequila from Mark. The service and the food was good & some entertainment on a Sunday afternoon. The town is lit up with some fairy lights so it almost fees like Christmas every night . Plenty of opportunities to walk around the town , down to the river and it is safe . The Panthera Cat Sanctuary is about 10mins away & worth a visit

Stanford is one of the best small towns (villages) in the Western Cape. It offers spectacular mountains, the ocean, great restaurants, an orchid nursery, footpaths to explore the town, great coffee and a well-known bakery.

Stanford, Gansbaai and Hermanus are all very close, so there is much to do and see.
There are several wine estates in the area and Stanford village has a bustling Saturday "stoep" market, providing lots of cool shopping options.
The nature reserves provide cool hiking trails and for lazy cooks there are plenty of dining out options.
If you haven't visited this area yet, it must go onto your list of places to see!

It has a delightful small town feel about it with restaurants and shops. There is a friendly, laid back atmosphere whilst Hermanus is a short drive away with its numerous attractions. In short it offers all the attractions of Hermanus whilst being in a peaceful rural setting.

Very well appointed and in spite of the house being built in the 1890’s it is in great condition and very well maintained. Has a great kitchen and dining area plus veranda has a nice braai area. House is very central to village centre and easy walking distance of restaurants and coffee shops
Ronald and Ineke are great hosts
On my next visit to Stanford we will book to stay at Union House if it is available at the time of our visit
A Beautiful flatlet above the owner's garage, completely private and quiet. It has everything you would need for a couple days in Stanford. We took a walk along the lovely train within the estate, and would book again if we were in the area:)
Excellent location. The unit is well equipped and spacious. The added benefit of having access to the music festivals hosted by Stanford Hills was a welcome bonus!
