Great space, full of green, not far from the port. The family running it were super nice and welcoming. They created a very comfortable atmosphere. The dorms were comfortable and clean. Fans ran on solar, so no problem with the power outages. Away from the noisy areas in the evening.

You were with family. Willie and his family were great to stay with! He had great insight on the area and things to do. Places to see.
Breakfast was great in the mornings as we hung out on the balcony. Loved the hammock!!
Wifi was great as long as the power was on.
It’s in a rural quieter part of capurgana. You definitely get the authentic Colombian experience.
We enjoyed are week stay:)
I’m gonna miss it and look forward to a return visit:)

Portal del Sol is a hidden jewel! It is run by the most adorable couple, Carlos and Maricela, who were very helpful, attentive to the needs of their guests, and kind. Portal del Sol is tucked away in a lush garden setting and is located adjacent to the Sapzurro trailhead. It is quiet and peaceful, and an easy 10 minute walk to the center of Capurgana and to the beach. When I first arrived, Carlos gave me a tour of Capurgana, pointing out places to eat, swim, shop and how to find my way back to Portal del Sol. Hint! Look for the blue wall. My room was clean and simple with everything a person needs to be comfortable - bed, fan, shower and toilet. Now let’s talk about the breakfasts. THE BREAKFASTS!!! They were incredible, with something different and unique every day, including fresh juice from one of Carlos and Maricela’s many fruit trees. Breakfast often included a traditional Colombian dish, too. So good and filling, you won’t need to eat again until dinnertime. And you get to enjoy your breakfast in their lovely garden - the perfect way to start your day! Portal del Sol is a small establishment, with just 3 (or maybe 4 ) cabins. Everything was well-cared for, tidy and super safe. I stayed at Portal del Sol six nights and could have easily stayed much longer because it was so comfortable and because of the hospitality of Carlos and Maricela.

If you’re looking at reviews like crazy on where to stay in Carpugana- I got you. We stayed at 3 different places over our week here and John’s place here is the absolute best by a mile. The challenge with Staying anywhere in the center is how much these guys love to blast their music and party - especially on the weekends- so you can’t really find a spot that will guaranteed be quiet. Second are the power blackouts they get- while we were there at 5 AM every day the power went out. Good places outside of the centro will usually have a solar backup to power something like a fan if the power goes out. John not only has a phenomenal fan in the rooms which will
Run on solar, he has air conditioning that you can run any time the main power is on (which for us was any time except 5 am- where the fan could then be used instead). Private room with air con, awesome fan backup, QUIET, and really great breakfasts and dinners cooked by a family across the street AND an unreal pool. I’m telling you- this is your spot.

Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
The host was so lovely and amazing and the view out the door was amazing!!! So gorgeous. She helped us find the waterfall and the beach in Panama. It’s also in a perfect spot for Sapzurro.
Johanna is an incredible host! I'd even say the best one with met so far! She tried to make everything possible for us. We could change the dates of our reservation, could wash our clothes for free, could use stuff from the kitchen etc.
The rooms are super nice with huge TVs and we really enjoyed our time there!
Place is a very special spot for a proper desconection and rest. Sandra is a very kind and helpful host: she makes you feel like in home but with see :)
The rooms are rather terraces than rooms so you basically sleep outside in the jungle. Of course the mosquito net keeps unwanted visitors out. There might be monkeys, a sloth or a Tukan stopping by to say hi from time to time. Lucia was a great host and helped us cope with all the unforeseeable problems that can arise in such a remote place since she seems to know everybody in the village. Great breakfast every morning. Muchas Gracias!
I spent 4 nights at Cafe del Mar and it was an amazing stay. Chris is a very nice host and provides helpful advice if you want to explore the area. The food is very good and varied, from breakfast to dinner. The location is great, right on the nicest beach of Sapzurro.
Very nice guesthouse directly at the sea with an amazing view over the bay of Sapzurro. Super friendly owners, Chris, Sandra and Esperanza make you feel at home.
A gorgeous room on the top floor of a traditional cabin, set back from the seafront amongst the trees. Patricia is an amazing host, very helpful. The price includes use of kayaks, snorkel, etc.
