This place is funky. But has an odd charm. The rooms are basic and worn out. The common area is stuffed with kitsch and has seen better days… but we still left having had an excellent time. We only stayed one night but took two lovely onsen dips. The water is hot and restorative. My husband and I were able to take a private onsen, outside, in the rain, before bed, and then again in the morning before checking out. The owner is lovely and welcoming and has great English. If you go with flow that this is good value for money but extremely basic, fun but funky, you will have a great time. There was some smoking in common areas but not in room. Bed was comfy. Town is very quiet. Do the waterfalls and then take an onsen. Enjoy the mountain and sea.

We loved staying at Shirahama Beach Side Inn! The owners were super friendly and helpful. The private onsens were so nice after a long day of walking and hiking. The free breakfast was such a nice touch and so yummy! Softest sandwich bread ever! The eating area was very cozy, I spent some time working there in the morning and it was so peaceful. I came during a rainy time but I imagine during the summer it's very popular for surfers. I am from hawaii and the hotel had lots of Hawaii art which was very sweet to see. We hope to be back someday :)

The facilities suit the budget. If I can suggest some improvement - hot water for drink or instant ramen, either thermos flask or electric kettle would be convenient.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
it was a really nice stay. The host is respectful and helpful. I felt very comfortable. it's not that easy to reach if you don't have a car but it's worth it if you're staying in Kawazu. I used as base to explore also the Seven Falls and Shimoda.
The house is traditional style and amazing, you can enjoy the private Onsen. The room is comfortable. I was the only guest that day so the host took me to the seven waterfalls by car. So kind. Thank you
The room itself is like an apartment room, with a living area, large fridge and eating area. The pension is one large building separated into 4 separate rooms on the top floor. The pension has a lovely large sized communal bath and shower, which you have to schedule use for earlier in the day. The heated rug is lovely.
The host went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and even personally drove us up to the Waterfall that we had come to Kawazu to see. He made us coffee each morning. The water from the bath is from the Mine Onsen which is a local Onsen. There is also a Tennis court. He is the loveliest man we met in Japan.
Rooms, private bath, food, staff, all were excellent!
Even though there was some language barrier, the staff tried their best with all. It all felt very much like a guesthouse run by a caring family. Very warm and professional at the same time.
It is very close to the train station though you have to walk a very steep slope. Walking to Kawazu to see cherry blossom is about 20 mins along the sea, quite romantic walk. Or you could take a train for just one stop. You could stay away from the huzzle of Kawazu city centre, very quiet place. The staff is very helpful.
