KIAN was a great place to stay with our family while in Matsue. We were fortunate that no one else had booked the other part of the property, so we had a nice stay to ourselves. The kitchen had snacks ready for us, which was very appreciated and helpful. The location is right by the Matsue Castle, and it's a good jumping off point for anything in the city. Our host was very kind and provided wonderful recommendations. She even made a reservation for us to tour a local soy sauce brewery, which was the highlight of our stay. If you are looking for a stay in Matsue in a traditional Japanese home, this is a great choice.

Host was very kind, provided details on meeting spot before arrival as it can be hard to find at first in the mountains. Also checked in during our stay to make sure everything was comfortable.
The property is such good value for money, beautiful wooden interior with a floor-to-ceiling window looking out into the forest. Bathtub is divine. Wifi, bluetooth speaker both added to the atmosphere. There is a fireplace too in case you stay in the cooler months. Highly recommend!
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
Yuji, our host, was very helpful and welcoming. We had some very good conversations with him. Also, he kindly offered to give us a lift to the train/bus station to save us a 30 minute walk which we gratefully accepted. We virtually had the Guesthouse to ourselves with only one other guest there whom we hardly ever saw. We would stay here again if we came back.
Our host was so wonderful. So helpful and kind and has very good English which was great for help in understanding the area including the local onsen and temples. Our host was very easy to contact and was a great help with organising transport, shopping. The house is in a quiet area with beautiful well kept gardens and the natural landscape has such beauty. Lovely spacious home with long views to Matsue and the mountains.
Friendly staff, quiet area and very comfortable amenities. Four outlets to a bunk, shower stalls and toilets all reasonable size. Nicest bunk mattress I’ve had in years. Been to many hostels in Japan and this was one of the most comfortable.
It was a great experience to live in a Japanese house. The house is clean and spacious, beautifully decorated, and fully equipped with daily needs. I also loved the quaint garden at the back of the house. The host is extremely hospitable and helpful too!
The host was extremely polite and helpful. I wouldn't be able to continue my bike touring journey without his help - for which I'm still deeply thankful. I hope you've got your rope back through the mail!
Great couple of food options nearby and the neighbourhood is quiet. There is a garage with tools which was a wonderful addition for a biker.
Definitely one of the nicest capsule hotels or hostels I've stayed in. The female-only bedroom was quiet and well-ventilated, the shared bath/shower/locker facilities were clean and comfortable, and the location is conveniently just a few minutes' walk from the train station. Breakfast was also good with a nice selection of Japanese and Western foods.
Spacious & well equipped. A beautiful guesthouse with decent & cozy decoration. Comfy beds & smart design that allows quiet corners for every guest in their sleeping area. Cozy dining room & neat kitchenwares.
