I love Ainokura during the winter time, staying at Minshuku Yomoshirou was the highlight of my trip, the snow were covering the village makes it extra magical. The owner is very helpful and kind, they were trying to explain the history of the town, about their ancestor and how they use to live in the mountain in the past. It just nice to be able to stay in the Gassho House and learnt about the wonderful Japanese culture.

I had a fantastic stay at Takazuri Kita Guest House last weekend! The owner was incredibly helpful and welcoming, making me feel at home from the moment I arrived. His wife was also extremely kind, hardworking, and attentive to all guests, making sure everyone had a comfortable stay. Their child is absolutely adorable, adding even more warmth to the friendly atmosphere.
The guest house offers a cozy mixed dormitory perfect for travelers who want to meet others while experiencing a genuine Japanese ryokan vibe. The ambiance was calm and relaxing, ideal after a day exploring Shirakawa-go.
Highly recommended if you’re looking for authentic hospitality and a memorable stay! I would definitely come back again.

The owner picked us up from a light up event because there was no bus connection so late at night. Saved us quite a lot of walking.
Great value for money in a good location. The kitchen was well equipped as well.

Nina and Masaki san are so kind and welcoming! Their 8pm activities make it easy to get to know all the people staying there for the night, and they introduce easy yet fun cultural activities such as folding cranes, writing your name in Kanji and making red bean mochi for the spring equinox :) I loved my stay here!!!

Perfect location right near Higashi Chaya district and 25 minute walk from train station! Shuji-San is also the kindest person I’ve ever met and will sit down with you to go over recommendations for the area! I left my charger in the room and he mailed it to me at my next location. 100000x% recommend!
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
Kota and his wife are the most incredible (English speaking) hosts. We felt welcome from the very first second. Beautiful house, comfortable tatami (bed)room, and a very nice lounge area/cafe. We booked for just one night, but immediately booked a second one when we arrived. We loved the recommendations about what to do in the area, and we checked all their recommended restaurants. Best guest house of our stay in Japan!
This guesthouse has hostel vibes (which I consider to be a good thing), yet our room was elegant, the outside terrace/balkony inviting, and the bathroom splendid and very new.
The common area was clean and inviting, and the use of the kitchen area great.
Even if you do not care about the "common parts", it is still a great room for a reasonable price.
The hosts were incredibly kind and heartwarming, as well as helpful when needed. We felt very welcomed. The house is beautiful and cozy. The shared kitchen was well equipped. The village is lovely, remote but quiet and peaceful. Highly recommended.
