Staying at Sanga Nikko was an unforgettable experience that truly enhanced my time in Nikko. This charming stay offered the perfect blend of traditional Japanese hospitality and modern comfort, making it an ideal home base for exploring everything Nikko has to offer.
From the moment I arrived, Yoshi and his wife went above and beyond to ensure my stay was exceptional. Their warmth and hospitality made me feel incredibly welcome, and Yoshi was especially helpful in guiding me through my plans in Nikko. Whether offering local tips or simply checking in to make sure I had everything I needed, their attentiveness made a real difference.
The location is also top notch - it is a few minute walk from the train and main bus station, making it incredibly convenient for accessing Nikko’s stunning attractions, including the UNESCO-listed shrines and temples, Lake Chūzenji, and Nikko National Park. It was also walking distance to fantastic restaurants, shops, and local spots.
Sanga Nikko is clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. It offered a cozy and unique atmosphere that blends authenticity with comfort, making it a perfect retreat.
If you’re visiting Nikko, I highly recommend staying at Sanga Nikko for at least a few days to truly soak in the area’s beauty and culture. My time here wouldn’t have been the same without it!

We had a wonderful stay here. The villa was comfortable, clean and charming. It had everything we needed, including a kitchenette and good coffee. The owners were so friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our visit to Nikko. We felt like we had our own little home. The guesthouse is in a great location, too — walking distance from the train station, to the World Heritage Area and to many restaurants and shops.

The tatami mat rooms, sliding doors, and futons were beautiful and extremely comfortable. The kotatsu was an amazing and relaxing place to sit after long days of hiking. Masayuki, our host, was extremely kind and accommodating, and was able to recommend great and safe hikes in the area, and very kindly looked after us. The upper story of the house where we stayed had such a traditional and nostalgic feel, and also had a full kitchen which allowed us to cook meals at home, and enjoy the beautiful space. Everyday our host would give us fresh strawberries and spend time chatting with us about art, the town, and local culture. It is also within walking distance to a local hotel onsen, which was a large part of our nightly routine while staying.

Our hostess was very attentive and thoroughly gave us a walk-through of the place and available amenities. She was even so kind as to prepare us breakfast free of charge and even gave us a ride to the train station.

The host was very welcoming and accommodating. Traditional provided breakfasts were wonderful. She even drove us to a shrine on the first day to make sure we could get to it before it closed. This was a perfect stay house for a couple looking to get away from the bustle of a hotel.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
Great location, super friendly host/staff, comfy beds, clean and tidy public spaces, very quiet at night even though it’s next to the train station.
Had a very relaxing stay there, thank you!
Lovely, clean and quiet place. Izumi was a great host. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. We had the privilege to see a mother deer with its fawn from our deck, it was spectacular. We highly recommend this beautiful stay.
Great hosts who went out of their way to make our stay very comfortable. Spotless house, quiet location, beautiful touches to make it feel homely, an awesome bath that stays hot and fills automatically- the best bath I have ever had! Hosts had information including timetables for buses, shows at edo wonderland at their finger tips. Walking distance - 5mins to bus stop and only 10mins tops to train station. Host also took us to the train station in their private car - very friendly, polite and helpful. Loved our stay and wish we stayed longer.
The host and staff were great and super friendly. They gave us recommendations about places and restaurants. We had such a lovely stay at the guesthouse. Everything was clean and the guesthouse has only few rooms so it was quiet at nights. It took only 1-2 minutes to walk to Tobu Nikko station and many cafes and restaurants and a kombini near by. We highly recommend this accommodation for your stay in Nikko. Thank you :)
Guest house was in a great location, really close to the train station and a family mart. The host was really friendly and helped us plan a hike with bus times and a guide he prepared himself. The toilets were modern and clean.
Our time at Stay Nicco Guesthouse was very nice. The location at the river about 5-10min from the main street and the next bus stop was very convenient and quiet. The cabin was sooo kawaii with a lot of attention to detail as well as well equipped and clean. Our host took the time to explain the surroundings and attractions of the area along with giving us tips on where to spend our limited time. His wife even drove us to the train station. We regret not staying longer and would like to return :)
Yoshi is a great and very kind host. He has loads of great tips about Nikko which were very helpful during our stay. The guesthouse is well organised and very clean. Cozy living room a d well supplied kitchen. Bikes are also available, which are great for moving around Nikko. All in all the best guest house we have had in Japan.
We had a great stay at Okunikko Guesthouse. Very cozy, well-equipped and welcoming place. Great location and free parking. We enjoyed everything about this place, especially the welcoming and accommodating host. Very kawaii host, thank you for everything ;)
Kind wishes,
Erika
Yoshi was a great host. Helped us to set up a great day to Senjogahara and beyond, good recommendations for meals, bus timetables etc. The place is very central but quiet. Enjoyed the photo, Yoshi is an expert, (not our usual thing). So happy.
