The owner was simply amazing. She picked me up from the train station, drove me to the place and we sat down for a little talk. She was super friendly and shared all these good tips for eating out. It really made me feel home! Thank you again☀️

What a wonderful place to stay. Besides the train occasionally and a few cars driving by it was a great experience. Very clean and the staff is very friendly. She went out of her way to help me. Highly recommended.

It’s an interesting concept though I felt that it is very overpriced for what you are getting.
I needed a property for my Kumano Kodo hike and this was available. Since there are not many accommodations in this area, I had to accept the high price.
The property consists of refurbished shipping containers that are arranged in a gated community. Rooms are equipped with a kitchen area, shower, and a toilet. There is also a combined AC/heater machine to control the temperature.
The property is sparking clean and the beds are comfortable.
In terms of negatives, there is no person on site. You need to register on the iPad and then do a Skype call with someone on the other side. Once they are happy with your answers, you get a code to access your room. It took me multiple tries to reach someone; I presume they were on a break. This delayed my check in by about 15 mins.
Also, there isn’t much by way of facilities. There is a washing machine/dryer and a fire pit. They also have a pizza oven , though I don’t know how often one makes pizza in Japan. The smoke from the fire pit travelled directly into my room so this brought back fond memories of forced camping trips.
Overall, this is a solid accommodation but I felt that it is too expensive for what is provided.
ICHIE Second Location features accommodations in Tanabe near Tokei Shrine and Kozan-ji Temple.

Mayumi is very nice and hospitable. I appreciate the traditional Japanese house especially it’s my first time in Japan. The place is very clean. Everything was provided. There’s coffee, tea, sugar, creamer, sweetener. It has a full kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove, etc. the bathroom was very clean and modern.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.

We arrived at the guest house after walking our first day in the Kumano Kodo. We had delicious meals! One of the highlights was the Okonomiyaki! Everything was prepared with love. The host is very kind and speaks English, so we could have a very nice conversation. Thank you for having such beautiful details during our stay as part of our honeymoon :)
It's a really quiet and friendly guest house, I would book it again anytime! Everything was very clean, spacious and comfortable. I got there really good advice before Kumano Kodo.
I arrived late in the evening by train and I was happy that the guesthouse is so close to the train station. The host was very friendly. Everything was very clean and I slept like a baby because it's a very quiet place.
- Great location for the Kumano Kodo
- Ike and his wife were great hosts, served us a delicious Okonomiyaki dinner and packed lunch for the trek.
- Clean room and facilities
This was in a great location with wonderful hosts. We enjoyed the communal meals immensely and had the best packed lunch of our trip. The meals were home cooked with local ingredients. The host explained the origins of all the dishes and went out of his way to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay. This guest house is newly renovated with very good facilities for bathing, a communal kitchen, a dining area and new beds and bedding.
Great location across from train/bus station. Quiet, I think because it was a holiday, few people in the hostel, and downstairs bar was closed. Comfortable bed. Clean. Juan checked us in, very friendly, but no staff around after 4pm.
Generously looked after by our wonderful host Ike at this homely guesthouse. Very clean, comfortable and nice to eat dinner with other guests. Great location for Kumano Kodo walk.
Really nice place to stay, inside of an old house that serves as a coffee shop during daytimes. Miyumi is a great host and speaks English, so we chatted a bit about our Kumano Kodo trail and she gave us some tips. For breakfast she made us some delicious sponge cake to bring with us on our hike!
It's a very quiet area and in walking distance from the station, so very convenient all around.
