Great sense of hospitality and help, friendliness and amazing recommendations have made my stay and my visit in the region of Nikko memorable.
Typical Japanese house with very comfortable tatami mats and futon, in-house onsen-like bath and the quietness of the Japanese country side.
Guest House Kuranomachi ゲストハウス蔵の街 is located in Tochigi and features a shared lounge. It is set less than 1 km from Tochigi Station and provides bicycle parking.

Charming helpful staff, even took us to the station, as there were no taxis available! 4 cats and 4 kittens made our stay! Easy to get to the Museums and Pottery shops on foot. The accommodation building is old and interesting architecture, traditional sleeping quarters, beautiful communal living space. It isn’t meant to be luxurious, for the rate they charge- it’s fine.
11 km from Nikko Station in Nikko, Hotel Famitic Myojin features accommodation with access to a sauna and public bath.

The staff were really nice and helpful. As the location is out of the way the host drove us to the nearest train station each day. The breakfast was a typical Japanese breakfast with a small amount of western food(bread rolls and eggs). There was not a lot of choice in Nikko and this was relatively cheap.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
The hostel is actually a traditional Japanese house. This makes you feel at home. The host is friendly and helpful. He does his best to make you feel comfortable. My toe was cracked so I was in pain, he provided painkillers and bandages. We had nice conversations with other guests and made good friendships. Thank you to the host.
The in-house car park was very convenient. Friendly staff. Close to the city centre so you can walk to many places. Good amenities provided. Easy to find.
Very close to the bus and train station, only 5 min walk, yet it is a very quiet area. Small, only 1 male and 1 female dorm, quiet. A very friendly host who has incredible tips on what to do and the background of sights of the area and elsewhere. Utsunomiya offers quite a few things to see, which are not overcrowded.
