Probably one of our favourite stays in three weeks in Sri Lanka. The host family is absolutely lovely, and probably the best breakfast we ate in all our time! Fresh eggs, coconut pancakes, fruit and juices, tea, etc. and for dinner the most incredible rice and curry spread. Really quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of town, either a quick tuktuk in to the temples or via bicycle around the lake/reservoir - our hosts organised bicycles to be delivered to the homestay within a couple of hours of requesting them, so we could go around the temples at our own pace. We just went to the free temples but there is also a paid temple pass which gets you into a couple of the bigger structures. There are so many beautiful free ones to see we elected to leave this and didn't feel like we missed out - recommend splitting them between the afternoon/evening before and early morning the following day if you only have one night like us, to avoid the worst of the heat and minimise temple fatigue! Highly recommend staying at this lovely guesthouse.
Attractively situated in the centre of Anuradhapura, Sunhill Lake Tourist Rest features free WiFi, a garden and free private parking for guests who drive.

We had a great stay. The house is perfectly located, supermarket, ATM and restaurants are only a few minutes walk away.
The room has everything you need and is very clean.
What made our stay so special was the host family. One of the most helpful and nicest families we have met in Sri Lanka. They organized us a safari in Wilpattu at a reasonable price, they gave us a tour of Mihintale and kindly took us to the bus with a tuktuk. Bike rental also available.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

What a wonderful homestay. Such a kind and welcoming family, peaceful home and great location in a lush green quiet part of town.
Malsha and Nilu can't do enough to help you, and Malsha makes delicious breakfast and dinner. We loved meeting Nilu's brothers too, such lovely young men.
You have the entire top floor which is spacious with a nice balcony, the bed is comfy, with aircon in the room and in the kitchen there is a fridge with cold water and cold beer. We couldn't have asked for any more.
If you are heading to Anura, don't hesitate to book Sweet Home Tourist Rest.

The homestay was absolutely beautiful and felt really comfortable and homely. The location was also brilliant, walking and cycling distance from all the main sites (and the kind hosts helped sort bikes out for us to use).
The hosts were so kind and went above and beyond to accommodate us and explain where all the best sites are and give handy tips. It was great chatting with them and getting to know a bit more about the area!
The food was also incredible. The best breakfast and lunch we had for our whole trip.
10/10 recommend.

The house is located in a quite and peaceful area. Room was clean. The hosts were very helpful and tried to do their best although sometimes was difficult the communication because they don't speak english.

We like the outside appearance of the property and the large clean room. The shower was fast and hot. The staff were all lovely and welcoming and we had a delicious evening meal and breakfast.
A really great stay.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
This cozy and comfortable guesthouse is located near a busy main road with shops and restaurants but it was quiet because it is hidden away on a peaceful side street right across a man-made lake. The room was spartan but spacious and extremely clean. Inoka and Pali are the kindest and nicest hosts that I have ever met. They would offer me tea with warm smiles whether I was coming or going. They rent very serviceable bikes which are ideal for a day long trip to explore the sacred city. Highly recommend!
Viraj was a great host, he organised some bicycles for us to get about the city, and even offered some free lifts to the bus station. Took the time to upgrade our room for a very reasonable price. His hotel is beautiful and in a nice quiet location just the right distance away from the hustle and bustle of Anuradhapura.
This was a large very clean room at a high standard. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They arranged a guide & tuktuk to the scared city , which I recommend. The guesthouse is on the edge of a lake. It’s quiet and there’s lots of places to eat nearby. I highly recommend staying here.
Coming from a no aircondition bb, we loved the rooms with aircondition! Very clean with large beds, soap available (not all places have that) and great location. Close to the new bus station, shops and supermarked, and still very quiet. The breakfast was cheap and delicious with plenty of food. Owner really friendly and even offered to take us to the old bus station upon departure. We would come back any time!
Everything. Really good accomodation. Clean & super comfortable. Sanjay was a great host. His cooking was fantastic at dinner & breakfast. Organised Lion beer for us which was real +.He arranged for a tuk tuk driver to take us to the ancient city within minutes of our arrival. In addition a taxi next day to our next stop off. As per usual in Sri Lanka always a smile & such friendliness. Overall great stop off guest house. You wont be disapointed.
Great location, in town but again surrounded by greens, peaceful and quiet. Takes you about 10 min. Into town by foot. The host was very helpful and his wife a very good cook!
Wasantha and his family are charming and great hosts. The house has a very tranquil courtyard garden which is a nice refuge from the heat of the day. The Sri Lankan breakfasts and dinners are delicious and great value. Wasantha is a great source of information and he responds generously to all requests.. we loved our stay.
The guesthouse is like a family home, basic but nice (U pay for what U get). It located in a countryside, old city, beautiful and quiet area with few shop at 10min walk. The owner is a great host, he helped me to organise my stay in Sri Lanka, good conversation and he even cooked a great dinner for my last night. I definitely recommend this place!!
