Panauti, a must experience quaint community located near Kathmandu (about45 minutes drive from the airport).
At Shila/Ashok's Community Holiday Inn, I woke up well rested in a comfortable room, set up with in-room bathroom. The carpeted floors solved my biggest issues with travels in South Asia, which are cold feet in hotel rooms where flooring is stone. A kittchen equipped with a kettle and a gas stove with two burners, pots and utensils had plenty of good quality Nepali teas and coffee to start the morning right. You can arrange with Shila/Ashok for a full breakfast at an incredibly reasonable price.
As they tell me, the Community Holiday Inn was theirs as a pilot initiative and now provides for many households who follow strict guidelines to meet western standards so to provide a worry free stay. All of them are run by the housewives, empowering local women and by attracting tourists to the region benefits many households and businesses alike.
The project also boasts of a new restaurant which provides authentic Newari cuisine and ambience.
Guidelines for meeting tourists needs and standards is advised by Ashok, who had 16 years experience as a Chief Experience Officer with GAdventures, a company I have personally travelled with five times and never fails to impress with their high standards and resourceful staff. Ashok has led over seventy expeditions to Everest Base Camp for GAventures and also to other locations in Nepal and Bhutan. I was lucky he was in town when I visited Panauti and learned lots about Nepal and South Asia travels.
Shila ensures the Community Homestay runs like clockwork, ensuring guests are comfortable, their needs are met and the facility is clean, well stocked an equipped at all times. Her long term experience in hospitality and entrepreneurial drive has benefited her household, community and tourists alike. Attention to detail is key.
Offering a restaurant, Mayur Restaurant that serves Indian and regional cuisines, Peacock Guest House is located 100 metres from the City Centre.

This lovely guest house is managed by a charming couple Laxman and Sanu who try so hard to make a guests stay perfect. The location is in the heart of Bhaktapur far away from tourist hotels, here you are really immersed in the community while still enjoying home comforts. Dattarraya Square is less than a five-minute walk away where there are a couple of recommended restaurants. We had a spacious room with balcony. Hot water always available and while the room was quite cool in the evenings, a portable gas heater is provided which was very effective. No kettle in the room but there is kitchen on the top floor to make drinks. Good breakfast each morning which is European style with boiled egg, yoghurt and fruit, cheese, tomato and cucumber slices plus bread and jam, juice and coffee.
Set just 400 metres from Bhaktapur Durbar Square, City Guest House offers accommodation in Bhaktapur with access to a garden, a bar, as well as a 24-hour front desk.

Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travellers who prefer unfussy accommodation with a personal touch. They are usually family-run, and your host will provide local recommendations and optional meals. Often cheaper than regular hotels, guest houses can also feature a cosy living room and a garden.
The location was superb, lovely rural views, quiet road, and great location for doing day walks from through rural villages. The room was comfortable with scenic views, there is several terraces for sitting outside in the evening and enjoying the lovely ambience.
We had a great time at Tashidelek. It is a very comfortable traditional family run guest house where nothing is too much trouble to Prem and his family.
The location is perfect. Being out of town it is quiet, and on the Hillside it has excellent views across the valleys to the snow capped Himalayas. We did several day hikes from here as well as exploring Dhulikhel.
Our room was clean and functional with a comfortable bed, balcony to enjoy the views and access to a roof terrace to have breakfast with a 360 degree panorama.
It was well managed as it was just opened for a few months. Clean and beautiful property. Good food and the staff were friendly, courteous and always willing to help. Excellent breakfast spread! Good views and great location, quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. Good place for a retreat, training or just to relax with family and friends.
They have a stunning view of Namo Buddha monastery and the Himalayas. The building is newly painted. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. There's a rooftop where you can eat meals. The family is charming, especially the hostess and her sister. They make very good, fresh food. Some of the vegetables are grown in their own garden. The host offered to give lifts to and from the monastery on his scooter. Otherwise, it would have been difficult getting to the monastery early in the morning, and in the evening.
Beautiful place with amazing view on top of the hill, quiet and peaceful to experience the local village life and do trekking. Very friendly hosts. Thank you so much and see you next time!
Great location.
Peaceful most of the time and relaxing. Good views of the Himalayas but not always.
Hot shower
Nice rooftop terrace
Did a trek with host for additional fee
