Staying at Dar Hkaiem is an experience, the property is the house of Majdi’s grandparents, it got renovated, the property is so clean and authentic and feels like the old good Arabian homes, Majdi has a great positive energy and he’s very kind and inclusive, he deals with his guests as friends, he goes out with them, cook for them, tell them where to eat, which places are the best and even goes with them Hammam (Spa) with them.
I indeed recommend Dar Hkaiem and I will definitely come back if I am at Sousse.

Location was excellent. Our room was large and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was extensive and Tunisian style - lots of sweet cakes, condiments, and bread, as well as eggs. There was plenty of hot water but it did take a couple of minutes before it warmed up.

A terrific place to stay in the medina. We had a large room with double bed, twin bed and a little dressing room alcove. Everything felt authentic, tile work, painted coffered ceiling, window latticework.
You do need to walk through part of the medina to reach it, it felt quite safe and was well lit at night. There are actually 3 houses that form Dar Baaziz, each a short distance from the others. Our breakfast was served in the 3rd house and was ample, although the coffee was awful.
There are steps in the alleyways and it's steep in places so it would be difficult with a lot of luggage since you can't get there by taxi. WARNING the medina is full of stray cats and kittens and it made us sad to see this every time we walked around.
Warm and welcoming guest houses are ideal for travelers who prefer laid-back accommodations with a personal touch. Usually family run, these hosts will provide local recommendations and even optional meals. Guest houses sometimes feature a cozy living room or a garden – and are still cheaper than most regular hotels.
