Visited Akita for the Kanto Festival in Akita city. It is about 1 hour drive but was no stress. The town of Misato is famous for spring water and amazing sake.

Near a train station, convenient stores and some restaurants. The house is really nice, we slept on japanes futons in a traditional Japanese room, which was really pretty! We could use all the rooms on the ground floor, including TV, couch and kitchen, which was nice!

みんなの実家門脇家 provides a hot tub and free private parking, and is within 10 km of Akita Station and 14 km of Omoriyama Zoo. Its a nice, calm corner in the outskirts of town. perfect for getting away from the big city. The owner and his family are more than friendly and accomodating, would recommend.

Set 8.4 km from Nyuto Hot Spring, Hotel Radish House offers 1-star accommodation in Senboku and features a garden. A hot tub is available for guests. I’m vegetarian and the host made me an amazing dinner and breakfast!

Situated in Senboku, 38 km from Nyuto Hot Spring, Kakunodate Guest House Choux features accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge. Best pillow among the hostels I've stay at so far! But more importantly the owners are very kind and generous and their lovely daughter likes to be social :) Shame not to spend more time in the area. Great to have a bar to hang your clothes/coat up!

Minpaku AMBO - Friendly share house - has mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking, situated in Kazuno, 40 km from Lake Towada. This place has so much soul and energy and it's worth a visit to Kazuno if you want hidden gem authentic Japan and lots of snow. Loved every second

Set just 33 km from Omagari Station, Hostel&Bar CAMOSIBA offers accommodation in Yokote with access to a garden, a bar, as well as a shared kitchen. The building is very old and cool. Nice people. Enjoyed the vibes.

Located in Odate in the Akita region, HACHI has a balcony and garden views. It’s a beautiful old house of the Showa era, and it gives a real feeling for the culture of that time. It also has a few entirely modern conveniences which we were less interested in :-) but for people like us who really are interested in the Japan of the mid 20th century, it’s an absolutely delightful stay
