With mountain views, Morinda Villa and Resto is set in Waingapu and has a restaurant and free shuttle service. The property was built in 2016 and features air-conditioned accommodation with a balcony....

I booked Morinda as a last minute thing. As this is my first visit to Sumba, I just wanted to feel the atmosphere of the river and hills surrounding. Villa 8 surely gave me all with unhindered views of the hills and the bend of the river below my verandah. Other than the occassional thumping base from nearby celebrations and the short stints of power cuts, everything else rose well over my expectations.. Morinda sits comfortably out of Waingapu town which made my nights sitting on the beanbag out my balcony listening to the night calls of Geckoes as well as looking at the stars a real pleasure I cannot find in more salubrious offerings in Bali. I'd like to thanks the staff for making my 4 night stay feel rather homely. I will surely return perhaps with a friend or two, naaah...maybe not. I love Morinda far too much for sharing. Oh yes as I had a rental bike, I did do some long rides to Tangedu Watetfall as well as tobsome lonely beaches surrouding Cheers. Ben from Melbourne.

Offering mountain views, Hars Garden Sumba in Waingapu provides accommodation and a garden. There is free private parking and the property offers paid airport shuttle service.

We had an amazing stay at Har's place. The location is nothing short of dreamy, with amazing views of the valley hills just in front. Har has constructed all the houses (I recall around 3-4 now) by himself, you can check on his IG for more detail on how he built them! All of them are really comfortable and unique, following the local architecture, blending with nature and each of them providing a different experience. Har is an expert and consultant on organic farming and produces his own veggies that he uses to cook the most fantastic breakfasts you will ever have, super yummy and different everyday, with the plus of overviewing the views directly from your stay. Don't forget also to order dinner from him, much better than eating anywhere else, every meal was amazing. Har always went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable, showed as around his plantation (he plants to reforest the area with a thousand fruit trees!) and the best: he gave us the best tips on the island, pointing spots that are not even in Google Maps and ready to explore. Think on pristine waterfalls, empty beaches, beautiful local villages, hills, etc. Please visit Har and Sumba before it gets ruined by the evils of mass tourism, and please visit with an open mind, it's raw, wild, authentic, and that's why is missing facilities compared with other destinations, but that what make it so unique and special. Thanks so much Har, we cannot wait to visit you again, cannot wait to see your new creations, houses, farm and forest!
