I booked a bed for two nights (with easy early morning checkout) in one of the dorms of the hostel on my trip from BKK to Krabi as I did not want to be on the train for more than 2-3 hours.
The hostel is located on the main road, though not very close to the train station, it's in walking distance.
The rooms are big, the beds have curtains but are made from potentially shaky, squeaky metal frames, depending on who you are sharing the bunk bed with. The AC can only be turned on in the evening and during the night.
There's a very small yard with two beach chairs. The common area is basically the "kitchen" (microwave only) with a nice table on the first floor, whereas the designated common room with the sofa does not invite to socialise.
The bathroom was very clean and has modern looking tiles and also overall the hostel looked very good, there were no cheap repairs or broken items to be seen.
Although not perfect, it's a very good hostel. As most visitors only stay a night to board the boat to Koh Tao or to ride South the next day, it's definitely recommended for a short or even longer stay.
The town has got everything you need close to the hostel, even bigger supermarkets and kind of a shoppig mall to prep for the next leg of your Thailand trip.
Situated within 1.3 km of Ao Thung Makham Beach and 23 km of Chumphon Railway Station in Ban Don Phlap (1), Pru Valley Thaley Tai Resort provides accommodation with seating area.

We booked a house with four rooms, three toilets, and three showers. It wasn't luxurious, but everything was fine. It was a great place for the kids.
We ate on the Sairee beach, which was a few minutes' drive away. There was an excellent restaurant.
Early in the morning, we took the ferry to Ko Tao. Few minutes drive from the Hotel
Set 15 km from Wat Chao Fa Sala Loi, Albatross Guesthouse @ Thungwualaen Beach offers accommodation with a balcony, as well as a garden and a terrace.

The hotel suited our needs for one night whilst we are cycling in Thailand. We were allowed to put our bikes in the spacious lobby.
A short 5 minute walk to the beach but we mainly wanted to rest so the location was not a big deal.
Clean and good value for money
Travellers on a budget looking to experience a place like a local will enjoy homestays. This simple accommodation is in a private home, where the host also lives. All facilities are shared and in most cases breakfast is included.
What an amazing stay! The room was comfortable and the deck was a great place to watch the boats and the canal. This homestay gave an insight into the local life of Chumphon and I really appreciated the effort the hosts put in to make me feel welcome. The homemade breakfast was also delicious. Thank you!
This little place exceeded our expectations.
Our bungalow was huge with a great view of the beach. All the staff were so smiley and helpful.
The area was very quiet because we went at low season but still places to eat.
Don't come here if you are looking to have raves and party but do come here if you want to see what Thailand must have looked like many years ago.
The locals picnic on the beach every night and we were even invited to join a family
We were sad to leave
Everything! Very clean rooms (+kitchen & bath/shower). Comfy bed. Great commonarea. Lovely host!! Supermarket across the street. Streetfood in front of the hostel.
This homestay is in a very nice small fishing village with almost no tourists. Grea place to relax.
The owner speaks very well English and is super friendly. We extended our stay because we felt very welcomed. If you are struggling to get a ferry ticket you should definitely ask him to help, he managed to book tickets for the next day even if it was all sold out online.
The breakfast has very good homemade produce and is served on the deck with view directly onto the river. Loved it!
The place has got it's charm and the pool is very nice but the highlight was the lovely host! She organised taxis to and from the property for me and let me use her bike to get around Chumphon. Would 100% recommend. Food at the cafe was also really nice.
Really nice homestay. Lovely host family. Very helpful with arranging transfers and ferry tickets. A very special place inside a local fishermen village with nicce views from the riverside terrace.
