Shin Sane is an institution. It's been around since 1970. It was the first Guest house to open in Mae Salong, and it's still going strong. I stayed here the first time in the early 90's. Back in the days, there were just the wooden hostel building. They have stayed on top of the game ever since, and these days there's also a modern guest house block and some cute looking Bungalows with thatched roof. Of some pot luck, I got almost the same room as last time, above the arch over the road facing the morning market. Nostalgica. The old rooms are remarkably well looked after, very clean and upgraded with good lighting and electricity outlets, perfectly fine for budget backpackers. The common bathrooms are spacious and clean. If you need more, go for the new rooms. Staff speak English, transport information is provided (and it leaves right outside the door). The WiFi is superb. There is an outdoor sitting area and cold drinks are for sale. It's a very well run place.

Where do I begin. I showed up at random, without a booking, and during the off season or rainy season. Gale, the sweet woman running the place while the owner (Peter) is away, immediately made me feel at home. She made me dinner 3 of the 4 nights and the food was amazing! The pool was amazing to be able to cool off in the middle of the day. The dogs are one of the highlights as well. They became my guardians during my 5 days there. I went for a walk and I kept trying to get them to go back to the place but they wouldn't take no for an answer lol. So I took them along because it seemed they obviously wanted to go for a walk too. By the end of the long walk, they were exhausted and I feel I now have new pet friends for life 🤗. I highly recommend this place to anyone. A word of caution. Be extra careful if you are going during the rainy season as the path to get there after rain is quite slick. Be extra cautious on the red dirt. Thanks for everything!

Many friendly cats and dogs on the property. Included breakfast was excellent and very generous. Diner was available for 100baht and the food was always delicious. Hosts were very kind. The family room was older in a concrete building with no views but other rooms are nicer, in bamboo bungalows and overlooking the river.

Staff was very friendly; parking is private just front of the room and can park more 3-4 cars together. It is about walking distance if you wish to join the Doi Tung Festival during Dec 202x, Weather is about 18-22 C where comfort for jumper or jacket on top.

Lovely hostel with an interesting history. Very clean. Bonus : a baby-foot! Our boys loved it obviously.
We were late for dinner and all the restaurants were closing. The owner kindly opened the kitchen for us.
